Abortion Foes Tell of Their Journey to the Streets
The New York Times ^ | October 9, 2009 | Damien Cave

OWOSSO, Mich. — Action means many things to abortion opponents. Lobbyists and fund-raisers fight for the cause in marble hallways; volunteers at crisis pregnancy centers try to dissuade the pregnant on cozy sofas.

Then there are the protesters like James Pouillon, who was shot dead here last month while holding an anti-abortion sign outside a high school. A martyr to some, an irritant to others, Mr. Pouillon in death has become a blessing of sorts for the loosely acquainted activists who knew him as a friend: proof that abortion doctors are not the only ones under duress, proof that protests matter, and a spark for more action.

“I can’t tell you how many babies have been saved because of abortion protesters outside the abortion mills,” she said. “That’s what it’s all about.”

This is exactly right. I've had two people tell me to my face that they chose life for their babies because of a sign I was carrying at an abortion clinic, and I met one woman who actually got off the clinic table because she heard protesters outside the facility. It's no wonder the baby-butchers demand "bubble zones" around their death camps. Here in Atlanta, they have moved their operations to privately run office parks in order to keep away people who might scare off their customers.

Thank you for your stand for the lives of these unborn children and for the women who would be scarred for life unless they had stopped their abortion decisions.

What was on your sign?

Driving back from our coast last weekend I passed a group of probably 200 pro-life demonstrators spread out across several blocks each holding up signs for those babies lives!

It was the first time I have seen that many pro-lifers locally out standing up for life....a good thing to see!

God bless all who take a stand for the lives of unborn babies and for the mothers who bare them!

Yes, I have been following the 40 days for life but, must admit, didn’t know last weekend was a special day in this wonderful campaign.

The City where I saw these wonderful prolife demonstrators was near Wilmington, NC.

It was a wonderful sight to see!

I am truly amazed at this report in the New York Times. It is extremely fair and well written and moving. Perhaps one of the answers to the prayers of so many during this 40 days for Life effort?♦

I’ve noticed the abortion clinic on Spring St. in midtown Atlanta has shut down. Did it close or just moved to an office park?

Not a chance in hell. Its debt to the unborn precludes any consideration of my patronage. But, thanks for the excerpt.
