Behind the Scenes: Picturing Fetal Remains

[There are no graphic images in the article proper. They are accessed through a slide show only.]

The photographs are graphic and detailed, showing the fingers or toes of aborted fetuses whose entire frames are no bigger than a cellphone. Since the mid-1990s, they have appeared all over the country — carried as posters by protesters, handed out with pamphlets or, in some cases, mounted like billboards on the sides of trucks.

Like many others, I often wondered about the source of these images. Who took the pictures? Where did the fetuses come from?

I had a chance to find some answers while reporting in late September on the death of James Pouillon, the anti-abortion protester who was shot and killed in Owosso, Mich. [See Saturday's presentation on the subject in The New York Times.]

Remember all these children on Dec 28th which is the Feast of the Holy Innocents. At St Anthony's Home for Infants in KC( the facility closed years ago) at the orphanage kids were not given gifts at Christmas. They each got a gift on Dec 28th, The Feast of the Holy Innocents...these were abandoned children, of which I was one ( I was born a day too late for the celebration). The true meaning of the feast is for those infants who were murdered by order of King Herod in order to ensure the Christ child was killed.

Thank you. It is a date that is very dear to my husband and me ... our fourth child was miscarried on that day in 1988 and when I explained the feast day to my agnostic brother, he was surprisingly touched. In fact, I almost thought we had a conversion of sorts on our hands, but it wasn't meant to be (just yet!) ...

What can I say?

I am a practical, practicing Traditional Roman Catholic!

The evil happening in America with Obumba and the communists is directly linked to our aborting millions of innocent souls.

My comment isn’t up yet. Incredible comments - the pro-abortion comments are frightening horrible.

Thank you for posting that picture.

This whole thread is about the pictures, and yet you are the first freeper to post one.

I'll be the second. Here is a baby alive, at 7 weeks of gestation.

They grow bigger, but they are humans from the start.

Oh my, please don’t post pictures like that without a warning. I find them upsetting and I know some on here simply can’t handle them. Thanks.

nope. don't agree with making shows of pictures of mutilated humans.

Don't bother to ask me to explain why it's barbaric. you can do your own homework.

Its so difficult for me to comment on a subject that turns my stomach as much as abortion. Guess 37 years as a RN trying to keep people alive has made me who I am today. I can’t imagine being forced to perform these cases. I pray for anyone with the courage to speak out. I really don’t understand what the NYT’s is trying to do, except run itself outta business. I hope its soon! Pray for the unborn!

Congratulations on such dedicated service and wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone's stomach turned regarding the subject of abortion, so we could get rid of it once and for all?

Difficult to look at but reaffirming in my hatred of abortion. How sad it is to see those little ones torn apart. Please Lord end this barbarism soon...

What I meant to say is bless this beautiful woman Monica Migliorino Miller who is doing a beautiful work because she is saving lives. But certainly the photos are not beautiful and I do not even want to look at them. It is much too sad.

Simply put: Ultimately, history will record that the United States was the most genocidal nation in the history of mankind.

Can any other of history's most-barbaric nations claim credit for an equal count for the murder of helpless children?

Sure....Russia purged 50-70 million people, China purged 100 million people, Germany purged 6-7 million people, etc., etc....the list goes on and on...

But does even the sum total of all of these known genocidal events include more than 50-million helpless children in that total?

Just wondering.......

Keep praying about this. In my dad’s family, an uncle made a death bed conversion after years of prayers offered by his wife.
Sincere sympathy on the loss of your little one. That ache never really subsides. Just remember you have a wee small protector watching over you. Jesus said “suffer the children unto me” so you can take solace knowing Whose lap your child sits upon.

“Evil, pure evil, struts openly now across the land...”
...........................
Thank you for those words..so very true.

zer0 is evil and it looks as though that description applies to all who surround him.

“A Nation that kills its own children is a nation without hope.” - Pope John Paul II

And I would add “, and a nation that will eventually destroy itself”, very sad.(:

I'm not saying that we who oppose this mayhem don't have hope...we do have hope that this slaughter, this self suicide will stop.

I think that JPII means that if we continue along this path without turning back & seeking mercy and forgiveness, then hope itself will flee.

To: Mrs. Don-o; potlatch

My sister-in-law was a hospital histotechnologist, who had to account for all the pieces removed in surgeries, including abortions. She used her profession’s term for the dismembered arms and legs: products of conception.

When my daughter saw the first ultrasound of her baby, he looked kind of like an apostrophe. She said she knew he was alive and couldn’t imagine anyone aborting a baby. He was born with a severe birth defect. If we lived in Denmark, the medical system would have refused to treat him. Nurses suggested he would have been better off aborted. My grandson is the light of our lives, and is a happy, thriving baby, who happens to have some challenges, too.

I grieve for the loss of the 50 million destroyed lives in this country, and what they could have given us all. I grieve for not having been able to give to them.

Thanks for your post, Mrs. Don-o.
