McCain Admits Campaign Tensions Between Palin, Aides
Washington Post ^ | 10/11/2009 | Garance Franke-Ruta

Posted on 10/11/2009 8:23:33 AM PDT by Saije

Former presidential candidate John McCain (R-Ariz.) acknowledged on CNN's State of the Union Sunday that tensions flared during his campaign between senior strategist Steve Schmidt and those allied with his running mate, then-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

"With a high-pressure situation, there's always tensions that develop within campaigns," McCain said in a video excerpt posted online. "And there were clearly tensions between Steve Schmidt and people in the Palin camp."

Schmidt has recently become a vocal public critic of Palin, predicting that a presidential run by her in 2012 would prove "catastrophic" for the Republican Party. McCain did not criticize Palin and called her an overall asset to his campaign for whom he still has affection.

"There are fundamental facts ... that cannot be denied," McCain said. "When we selected or asked Sarah Palin to be my running mate, it energized our party. We were ahead in the polls, until the stock market crashed. And she still is a formidable force in the Republican Party."

"And I have great affection for her," he continued. "Did we always agree on everything in the past? Will we in the future? No."

Yes, I know. But I think Sarah is going to say more than just the things we already know. Judging by Schmidt’s attacks and the other McCain handlers, I have a feeling she will expand on her comments.

Just as I suspected.

“to bad JD Hayworth isn’t running against McCain
Instead a real flake, Simcox who has comments on
some issues but the war is something that is not on his agenda.
Simcox is running as a republican but is not one and has
allegiances to his various third party loons.
Many people left his organization because he couldn’t
account for tens of thousands of dollars given to it.”

Agreed about Simcox. He has no allegiance to much except himself. I covered his stories in 2006 and would never vote for him.

And it sounds like Hayworth may be running, I hope so:

“One also wonders why one would call into further question ones already suspect legitimacy by tagging one, pathetic, Appalachian dweeb.”

I have no idea what you’re trying to say. Who are you referring to as an ‘Appalachian dweeb’? If it’s me, I’ll bite. My ancestors actually did inhabit those parts, they were Cherokee and better educated than you or I ever will be.

You have history of being one of the biggest Palin naysayers around. Sarah herself could tell you face to face and you still wouldn’t believer her. We’ll see who’s laughing when her book is released.

Another recklessly inaccurate statement.

“Sarah Palin is a formidable force FOR Americanism.”

Yes, and according to State Run Media/Obama, Americanism is the problem with this country and must be stopped in favor of a reduction of the American Standard of Living to that of Central Africa. This is the New International Order of Mediocrity and Oppression that our new government seeks to impose by hook or by crook.

He should have gone with Sarah full force on DRILL BABY DRILL and sided with her on drilling in Alaska.

He didn’t even bother to accept her offer to visit Alaska to see the drilling site for himself.

He remains stuck in stupid.

If McCain had voted AGAINST TARP he would have won.

You've gotta be kidding. I wish that were it. You give the electorate too much credit. Average Americans didn't even know what TARP was --- and still don't. That wasn't it. Sadly, they paid more attention to what was going on at SNL than at the Fed. It was a combination of factors in the end.

It's not a Twitter verified account.

I wanted to see if any of the Romneybots/Palin haters would fall for it, since it validates
 their opinion of Sarah.

I also found Chuck Schumer's account, which has not been verified yet, but has Barbara Boxer
 (ma'am) following his only tweet:

No, I’m not kidding. If McCain had voted against TARP he would have set himself apart from the field and REAL CONSERVATIVES would have been more impressed with McCain and come out to support him in far bigger numbers. Don’t forget how many conservatives said they would never vote for McCain because of amnesty and other issues. So a lot of conservatives sat home and didn’t vote at all.
