That fellow is good at shooting his mouth off, isn't he? It was especially cute of him to mention "oil money," when the amount of gravy shoved into climate research - the bulk of it, or a proprietorial amount, being in pro-AGW hands - could buy Conoco-Phillips outright. Seventy-nine billion bucks is an awful lot of pelf to sing a tune for. 'Tis easy to be an "oil money hypocrite" under such circumstances.
As far as his supposed debunking of Lord Monckton, the only point he made that doesn't require a supporting quote/reference was Lord Monckton's former membership in the House of Lords. At the time Lord Monckton said he was one, he was one. The House of Lords had hereditary peers back then, and Lord Monckton was one of them. As far as Lord Monckton's purportedly self-aggrandizing claims are concerned, I don't believe it unless I see an exact, properly-attributed quote.
As for why I'm bring these points up here instead of the blog you sent the link to, it's because I can't be bothered registering over there. (Come to think of it, I've never registered for the NYT either.)

One more thing. The $79 billion figure came from a Science and Public Policy Institute estimate -
link here. The current market cap of Conoco-Phillips is $76.6 billion,
according to Google Finance. Granted that the current market cap leaves a very thin takeover premium, but 79 bill is still more than 76.6. If the market keeps going up the way it has, I'll have to find a smaller major integrated producer to make the point.
I'm tempted to call this reply to myself an "update," to make another point.
