amen.
“...His drill sargeant told him to ignore DEFEND HIS LIFE.I was so relieved to hear this until I read this article.”
This saying comes to mind: "Better to be judged by 12, then to be carried by 6."
Let me know what I can do to help. My son told me that a unit is scheduled to leave for Afghanistan in two weeks. He talked to one of the guys and asked when’s the last time he fired a rifle. The answer was “two or three months ago” and only one turn on the range. He termed it “a joke.”
This is our force in readiness. People, if you aren’t angry enough to go and get in the face of your representatives, I don’t know what will do it. I have a mind to march on Camp LeJeune and demand they return my son!
Mean while burn the phones to your senators to stop this bill in its tracks if possible. Obama will be more of a disgrace if he signs this, as if he cares..........
One thing I made quite clear is that Obama should be impeached - overthrowing one's country is treason. Please phone or fax your senators regardless of their party....they need to know their reelection is on the line for this and their President is in clear violation of the United States Constitution and should be impeached.
Bless you and your group. Most of all, bless our troops.
I’m so angry about this I don’t which I feel more like doing: cry or scream.
We have much in common, samsmom. His dad and I strongly encouraged our son to wait until after the election to accept his admission to OCS. Fortunately, we had enough clout to make that stick (trust me, we had our fingers crossed hed listen). We insisted that he finish his education before making that decision. He graduated from college in May and two weeks later went to OCS. We attended his graduation in August.
What we have learned is that Marines do not swear allegiance to the President. They swear to protect and defend the Constitution and serve at the pleasure of the President. Officers have the right to refuse any order they deem unconstitutional or in violation of their conscience with an immediate resignation tendered if they cannot follow a direct order that violates either of those two criteria. That is why we told our son he must enter as an officer or we would have no son. Once again, we had our fingers crossed we had enough clout to influence his decision whether to enlist or seek a commission.
Between now and the end of January (when he accepts his commission), we are monitoring the situation in Washington and our sons intellectual and character development to ensure he is fully aware of the responsibility he is taking on. Once his commission is accepted, he will have the responsibility of laying down his life to protect the enlisteds under his command. He will still have at least a year to develop that leadership skill at Quantico and his MOS at Pendleton (or wherever that MOS is taught). Our prayer, as his parents, is that he will become as compasionate as he is wise, and we have placed the ultimate outcome in Gods hands.
In the meantime, you and I and other parents can do our best to fight the battle here at home to ensure our sons and daughters and all who serve have our full support. That is my goal, that is my mission that is my purpose in posting here. I hope I can find the words, the wisdom and the means of shaping the course our nation adopts, and it will be passed along to others who will rise up and help carry the load. That is why I will continue to attend the parent’s meetings which is mostly made up of enlisteds parents. I need to find out what their Marines are experiencing. I can’t fight without facts, and God knows we aren’t getting much out of Washington and those in command of our Marines who are too constricted by “rules of engagement” with the politicians to enlist our help.
I cant physically take up the fight, but as long as I have two brain cells firing Ill continue to write because I do believe the pen is mightier than the sword.
Semper Fi, Marine you are as much one as Sam is.
With all my love,
Pats Mom (Kathy) ;-)
