WASHINGTON - The unprecedented number of death threats against President Obama, a rise in racist hate groups, and a new wave of antigovernment fervor threaten to overwhelm the US Secret Service, according to government officials and reports, raising new questions about the 144-year-old agency’s overall mission.
The Secret Service is tracking a far broader range of possible threats to the nation’s leaders, the officials said, even as it also investigates financial crimes such as counterfeiting as part of its original mandate.
The new demands are leading some officials, both inside and outside the agency, to raise the possibility of the service curtailing or dropping its role in fighting financial crime to focus more on protecting leaders and their families from assassination attempts and thwarting terrorist plots aimed at high-profile events.

Maybe the secret service should examine who it is that they are trying to protect! Are they not sworn to uphold the constitution and protect it from all enemies forein and domestic?? Seems to me the thugs in office threaten this country more than we the people!!!

If the SS is too busy right now to perform its actual mission, it is because they are investigating stupid things like the defacement of a golf course. Some idiot carved into the grass the statement ‘I (swastika) Obama’ and the news articles about the incident stated that the SS was called in to investigate. Really!? While the vandalism and the statement made are moronic, unless the SS is charged now with investigating thoughtcrime, then they should have had nothing to do with it.
The SS really, really, REALLY would have looked into Obama’s Chicago crimes....but they were too busy getting drunk in San Francisco and complaining about their overtime pay.

The Secret Service is failing to do its job by not Investigating this fraud Known as Barack Obama.They Know he is NOT a citizen of the United States,and even if they did Not know they have the capability to find out if he is truley an American citizen.
If the Secret Service refuses to do its damn job what do they expect the people of the United States to do?Allow our country to fall under a communist dictatorship without a shot being fired.I don’t think so.

I don’t how the secret services mission can get any more broader than investigating written/verbal threats against hpresident. Infiltration or spying maybe.

I do suspect that this admin is quite a bit more “sensitive” to threats given the lack of arrests during W’s admin including nationally released movies depicting his assassination not to mention the many “protest” signs I’ve seen calling for his death ...
