A Canadian Roman Catholic bishop has been charged with the distribution and selling of child pornography after a random search of his laptop at the Ottawa airport, a police source confirmed to the press.
His Eminence Raymond Lahey, 69, was returning to Canada from the United States when Canadian Border Services Agency officials found images on his computer.
Bishop Lahey resigned from governing the diocese of Antigonish, Nova Scotia last weekend. In his letter to his flock, the Bishop said that he needed time for "personal renewal.”
In August, Bishop Lahey offered the victims and their families apologies on behalf of the Church and said he "hoped to never again have to deal with such reprehensible behavior."
The Canadian bishop is best known for having brokered a landmark 13-million Canadian dollar (12 million US) settlement with people who claimed to have been sexually abused by priests in the diocese dating back to 1950.

Intrinsically disordered men have no business being priests-period. This Roman Catholic would rather see the Church purged of ALL homosexuals- even if it meant 1 priest left per continent on the planet.

A) Since when do Border Agents just start going through files on a laptop?
B) Since when do laptop files indicate intent to or actual sales?
There's a whole lot missing to this story... like a long term undercover criminal investigation or a string operation.

Canada. In Canada the police don't need probable cause to pull you over. If a cop doesn't like facial hair, he can pull you over and check your papers.

Last month a US court ruled that border agents can search your laptop, or any other electronic device, when you’re entering the country. They can take your computer and download its entire contents, or keep it for several days. Customs and Border Patrol has not published any rules regarding this practice, and I and others have written a letter to Congress urging it to investigate and regulate this practice.
