...by Mary Eberstadt, a research fellow at the Hoover Institution, is a great article in the August/September issue of First Things and is available online. I'll get you started: That Humanae Vitae and related Catholic teachings about sexual morality are laughingstocks in all the best places is not exactly news. Even in the benighted precincts of believers, where information from the outside world is known to travel exceedingly slowly, everybody grasps that this is one doctrine the world loves to hate. During Benedict XVI’s April visit to the United States, hardly a story in the secular press failed to mention...

Bianchi The doe-eyed beauty at the center of Christie Brinkley's divorce case took the stand yesterday as the star witness and dished on the sordid affair that was ultimately the death knell for the supermodel's marriage......and even wore a rosary on her wrist. Bianchi spoke with a tiny, shaken voice as she recounted the intimate details of their tawdry trysts and the money he showered her with. She met Cook when she was just a 15-year-old clerk in a toy store in 2003. In 2005 Cook hired the young stunner to work at his Hamptons architecture firm when she...

* MISTRESS: I GOT HIRED JUST FOR SEX If Christie Brinkley wanted to utterly humiliate her two-timing husband, she sure as hell got her wish yesterday. In a gasp-inducing first day of their divorce trial, the supermodel's lawyers exposed her wayward husband, Peter Cook, as a sex-crazed, porn-obsessed pervert who hired an 18-year-old girl at his architectural firm just to get her into bed. The normally staid Suffolk County courthouse in Central Islip turned into an adults-only peep show when the 49-year-old cad admitted under oath that he habitually ogles online pornography, (gratifies himself) in front of strangers via a...

Hi everyone. I'm thinking about taking a breather from Free Republic for a little while. Not long, I'm sure. But, I just don't want it to interfere with my job, and I already had that happen once. I'm reading and posting much too much. I think a short sabbatical should help me break this bad habit.See you all soon .... NOT DURING WORK HOURS!

An apology from the 9th Circuit judge for his computer collection of porn isn't necessary. He just needs to say, 'So what?' ...Judge Alex Kozinski's statements about the stash of sexually explicit images he collected and that the public (until this week) could view on his website have been varied, although not necessarily inconsistent: He thought the site was for private storage and offered no public access (although he shared some of the material on the site with friends). People have been sending him this stuff for years (implying that it just accumulates, like junk mail). He might accidentally have...

A federal judge suspended the obscenity trial of a Los Angeles porn distributor Wednesday following a newspaper report that the judge had sexually explicit material on his own Web site. Judge Alex Kozinski on Wednesday granted a joint motion to suspend the trial after the prosecution said it needed time to look into the issue of the judge's Web site. The judge told the jury to return on Monday. The panel spent hours at the Pasadena offices of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals watching videos depicting bestiality and extreme fetishes. Kozinski is chief justice of the 9th Circuit...

Criminal defense attorney Douglas R. Slain (pictured) has a great post about an outrageous misuse of child pornography laws. The target, of course, is male--in this case Alex Phillips, a 17-year old high school student from La Crosse, Wisconsin. Slain writes: "Phillips may not be the brightest crayon in the box, but his story is one that once again calls into question the legislative sanity of some of the overreach of our laws regarding what constitutes 'child pornography.' "It turns out that Phillips at some point in the last year was friendly with a 16-year old girl called HLK (14...

Legislation that would restrict the sale of certain men's magazines on U.S. military bases around the world would be bad for morale, according to soldiers at Grafenwöhr. U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga., has introduced legislation that would close a loophole in the current law that allows the sale of some sexually explicit material on military bases by lowering the threshold required to deem material "sexually explicit." A Department of Defense committee that reviews materials sold on bases ruled last year that magazines such as Playboy and Penthouse are not pornographic. But Broun's Military Honor and Decency Act includes language that...

TOKYO (AP) — A Japanese civil servant was demoted for logging more than 780,000 hits on pornographic Web sites on his office computer over nine months, an official said Friday. The man, a Kinokawa city government employee in western Japan, visited porn sites from June 2007 to February 2008, city official Tomiko Waki said. The man's name was withheld. City officials said the number of hits discovered on his computer's internal log was so high in part because one click on certain types of pornographic sites registers multiple hits. Despite his frequent porn viewing, none of his colleagues noticed his...

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon has joined booksellers to challenge a state law restricting the sale or provision of sexually explicit material to children, saying it could affect constitutionally protected material. The ACLU says the law approved by the 2007 Legislature is vague and could result in parents being charged for providing educational books to their children - or even an older child who gives material to a younger sibling. As an example, the ACLU cited the 1975 novel "Forever" by Judy Blume, a frequent target of censors because it deals with teenage sexuality....

Child pornography, said a policeman. Oh, God, the man thought. ... It will take them a while to process the computer, the defense attorney said, and what happens next will depend upon what they find.... The man said they would find child pornography. ... It seemed to him that people who molested children often got less time than men who possessed child pornography. ... So...

A woman is accused of chasing her boyfriend with a knife after thinking he was an actor in a pornographic movie they were watching together. The victim says it all started when he and his girlfriend were inside his southwest Albuquerque home watching a pornographic move at 10:30 Wednesday morning. That’s when the victim called 911 saying his girlfriend, 20-year-old Amanda Montoya, had a knife. “She almost shanked me and everything. She put the (expletive) knife right under my throat," the victim told a 911 operator. The victim, wearing only a pair of shorts took off down Five Points, begging...

Some really like it hot. In the sordid tradition of peddling raunchy video footage of celebrities a la Paris Hilton, a long-buried sex movie of Marilyn Monroe recently hit the market, a top collector told The Post. An illicit copy of the steamy, still-FBI-classified reel - 15 minutes of 16mm film footage in which the original blond bombshell performs oral sex on an unidentified man - was just sold to a New York businessman for $1.5 million, said Keya Morgan, the well-known memorabilia collector who discovered the film and brokered its purchase...

The British government wants to ban convicted pedophiles from using social networking Web sites such as Facebook, the Home Office said Friday. The plan involves forcing sex offenders to give any e-mail address they use to police, who will then ask the Web sites to block their access, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said. Smith said the proposal is aimed at sending out the message that the Internet is ''not a no-go area when it comes to law enforcement.'' ''We are changing the law ... so that we have got better control over the way in which child sex offenders are...

Personnel records used to justify the dismissal of a librarian who reported to police a man viewing child pornography on a public computer were changed after her dismissal, according to a law firm working on behalf of Brenda Biesterfield. That, however, hasn't stopped the county from justifying its actions and citing the changed records."The actions of Tulare County officials in firing Brenda Biesterfeld are simply inexcusable," said Mathew D. Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel and dean of Liberty University's school of law."She should be reinstated and compensated for the injustice done to her," he said. "The Tulare County Library ought...

This was not what Patrick Cordova had bargained for. The Stanford junior, a member of the school's student government, had wanted to host a lecture on sexual health. And he figured that a provocative and fun way to tackle the issue would be to bring a prominent pornographer to speak on campus. So Cordova sent out some invitations. The first person he heard back from was Michael Lucas--longtime porn actor and director of such films as Hunt & Plunge, The Bigger The Better, and Fire Island Cruising (editions one through eight). A fixture in New York nightlife and head of...

A new study shows young adult women are becoming more tolerant of pornography. The research -- part of a larger study called "Project Ready" -- found that college-aged women could be more accepting of pornography than their fathers. According to the study, 65 percent of men, 48 percent of women, 36 percent of fathers, and 20 percent of mothers agreed that pornography was an acceptable way for someone to express their sexuality. Pat Trueman of the Alliance Defense Fund says the results are not surprising. "... You've got a generation of people growing up embracing something that is not helpful,...

David Mech, or David Pounder as he's known in pornography circles, said that Planned Parenthood's Web site for teens, Teenwire.com, is an excellent source for young people to learn about what he considers the benefits of viewing pornography. Mech contacted Cybercast News Service after reading its report about Teenwire. "Planned Parenthood is an excellent organization that helps people by focusing on how people actually are behaving (i.e., having sex, watching porn, doing drugs, etc.), as opposed to helping people based on how they should be behaving (abstaining from sex, watching the news, eating healthy, etc.)," Mech, a pornography producer and...

Reverend John Jenkins, CSC, and I have been in communication about his decision to allow performances of “The Vagina Monologues” at Notre Dame. Father Jenkins has informed me that, while he thinks that this play is a bad play, he believes that permitting its performance under certain conditions, namely, in an academic building without...

POLES should not be allowed to vote online because the internet attracts people who watch "pornography while sipping a bottle of beer", a former prime minister told his party's website. Jaroslaw Kaczynski and other leaders of his Conservative Party have said they wanted to rejuvenate their ranks and reach out to internet users after losing power last October when younger voters flocked to their centre-right rivals. Poland's election commission is floating proposals such as allowing people to vote online to boost turnout. "I am not an enthusiast of a young person sitting in front of a computer, watching video clips...

They were charged with breaking into Moon's Beauty Shop at 9th and Washington streets in South Philadelphia and the adjoining Wings and More, using only a handsaw and ax to get in through the roofs of the establishments. My sister-in-law and brother-in-law discovered that a neighbor has been tapping into their unsecured wireless internet connection. They've discovered 8-10 folders of photos accessible through their network that do not belong to them. (My BIL discovered this a few days ago when he wasn't able to get an internet connection and went searching for his wireless connection.) Some are general family photos of camping trips, their home, etc., but there are numerous photos that can only be described as all-male kiddie porn. Tonight my husband took steps to delete access to the folders that had been mapped to their computer...

A state lawmaker wants to tax in-room adult movies ordered at hotels to help fund child sex-abuse investigations. The current version of House Bill 1086, sponsored by Rep. Amy Stephens, R-Monument, would impose a 99-cent fee on all in-room movies ordered at hotels. Stephens, though, said she plans to narrow her proposal to apply to just adult movies. The money would go into a fund for children's advocacy centers, which counsel sexually abused children and help police and prosecutors interview young victims. There are 14 such centers in Colorado and more than 600 nationally. Stephens said imposing the fee on...

CONCORD – Sexual images a camp photographer created by combining the faces of young girls with women's bodies were not child pornography, the state Supreme Court ruled yesterday. The ruling overturned the child pornography conviction of Marshal Zidel, who was sentenced in June 2006 to up to seven years in prison. Zidel, 61, of Somerville, Mass., was a photographer at Camp Young Judea in Amherst, where authorities say he superimposed pictures of 15-year-old girls onto images of naked adults. The court ruled the pictures do not violate child pornography laws, partly because they did not involve sexual acts by actual children, and...

Best Buy's Geek Squad isn't exactly known for respecting people's property. This time, however, instead of us catching them, they caught a guy with child porn. Upon performing their usual search (and invasion of personal privacy), the Geek Squadders at a Twin Cities location found over 800 images of young girls between the ages of 7 and 15 in various states of undress and performing sexual acts. The Geek Squad promptly turned the evidence over to the police. The police eventually obtained...

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved a bill saying that anyone offering an open Wi-Fi connection to the public must report illegal images including "obscene" cartoons and drawings--or face fines of up to $300,000. It also sweeps in social-networking sites, domain name registrars, Internet service providers, and e-mail service providers such as Hotmail and Gmail, and it may require that the complete contents of the user's account be retained for subsequent police inspection. Before the House vote, which was...
