What would Mao do?
Washington Times ^ | 10/20/2009

Posted on 10/20/2009 2:49:11 AM PDT by markomalley

White House Communications Director Anita Dunn told a group of high school students last June that former Chinese communist dictator Mao Zedong was one of her two favorite political philosophers, and you could tell she was speaking from the heart. Her earnest appeal to the teenagers to fight their own wars, as Mao had counseled when challenged within his own party, was clearly meant as a call to activism. "You fight your war and I'll fight mine," she quoted Mao as saying, because apparently Mao was all about personal choice.

Of course, Mao's usual response to those who questioned his authority was to have them killed, but mentioning that inconvenient truth might detract from Miss Dunn anointing him a philosopher.

Miss Dunn's quotation of Chairman Mao as one of the two people she "most turns to" has created a media sensation. A bewildered Miss Dunn, discovering that not everyone reveres mass murderers as sources of valuable life lessons, claimed she was only quoting late Republican political operative Lee Atwater's views on the Chinese Communist Party chairman. But there is a significant difference between uberconservative Mr. Atwater making a joke about Mao and reverential views coming from one of President Obama's mouthpieces.

"What would Mao do?" seems to be the guiding question in White House communications strategy. Miss Dunn bragged that during the 2008 presidential campaign, "very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn't absolutely control." The Obama White House continues this drive for control using the tools of government, seeking to harness all means of communication and organize a Cultural Revolution Lite.

If you haven’t seen these two clips, they’re a must see. One is Brit Hume talking about the WH and Anita Dunn (mentioning Beck and the guy in the Mao suit watching over the red hotline phone)...the other is Beck in his usual sarcastic manner, it’s really funny as he taunts Dunn to call (that’s why the guy by the phone is dressed in the Mao suit...thought it might make her more comfortable.)

Uh... let’s see - Mao eliminated all freedoms, then killed millions. Good.

Hitler eliminated all freedoms, then killed millions. Bad.

Okay, got it.

But... does that mean that Obama’s supposed to eliminate all freedoms, then kill millions?

Not quite clear on that point...

I think there is not a single speech on record, that I recall he ever made, condeming Communism and Socialism.

Of course, that would make sense.

I am still waiting to read Mr. Atwater's exact comment about Mao. Does the Washington Times reporter think it is embedded in every American's consciousness and too obvious to need repeating?

The “what would Mao do?” phrase is devastating. If this gets traction, Anita is gone this Saturday night.

How did these ex-Hippie clowns get into positions of power? We had our eyes shut—we voted emotions not reason. We were too busy watching American Idol or watching the nation slip into a descending state without saying a word. We were too selfish, too self serving, to distracted to react. Our courts and our culture was twisted by thugs and idealists. Our colleges were taken over by radicals and our media dominated by the evil spawn of Marxists. We must work to get them un-elected! We work now within what is left of the system or we will have to use other means. Maybe this is the wake up call we needed all along. Freedom isn’t free folks.

Sounds like ozero and his fellow vermin are jealous of the power that mao had. Problem is the Chinese peasants were ignorant, had no access to news (like what was about to happen to them) and no firearms. Ever notice, they love stalin, but hate hitler? Because hitler attacked stalin. Between stalin and mao, millions were murdered to retain their control of their populations. The Berlin wall was a very visable sign of their control. What really confounds me is the people who are supporting this regime such as the press. IF obozo gets what he wants, the press will be first to be sacked. They are actively participating in their own demise.

I guess the difference is that Hitler, by targeting Jews and homosexuals (among others) was guilty of a hate crime. Mao and Stalin killed everybody indiscriminately to further their own "personal" goals, which is OK to leftists.
