Four in 10 Americans Fear Obama Will Ban Gun Sales
Politics Daily ^ | October 20, 2009 | Bruce Drake

Sales of guns and ammunition soared when Barack Obama became president because of fears that he and the Democratic-controlled Congress would pass anti-gun legislation, and that concern still shows up in a Gallup poll conducted Oct. 1-4. Forty-one percent of Americans believe Obama will try to ban the sale of guns while in office, according to the poll. While Gallup put the question in the framework of a ban on all guns, it notes that "Obama has never said, either on the campaign trail or after taking office, that he intends to push for a ban on the sale of all guns. Nevertheless, the reports of increased sales of guns and ammunition suggest that certain segments of society -- in particular, gun owners -- are acting as if this belief is true."

A majority -- 52 percent -- don't believe Obama will try to ban gun sales.

Fifty-five percent of those Gallup polled own a gun and 53 percent say there is a gun in their household.

Sixty-two percent of Republicans voice the fear of an Obama-inspired gun ban while only 20 percent of Democrats say the same. The highest level of concern is in the South and Midwest where 47 percent and 46 percent respectively are worried about a ban.

Please, don’t “guess” with your new gun. Seriously, get some range time in so you’ll know what to do and what to expect when you pull the trigger, especially from a 12-gauge.

I recommended bird shot for training, for those people afraid of firearms.

In fact a 14 guage is the best training tool behind a .22 /IMO

That sounds right. I also want to make sure there are no innocents in my line of fire, of course. And that includes my dog.

;-)

I need to make that more clear. If it’s me or the bad guy in an instant, and my dog is in the LoF, sorry dog.

It’s funny that a “friend” of mine knew how to get into my house. I was in AZ and he gave and “unexpected house call” from Vegas on a saturday night all the way to my bedroom door. He was close. He was met with a high-powered rifle until I saw his face. It was 4:00AM. That was 20 years ago.

Great! Don't mean to sound patronizing, just want you to be prepared.

Next... go buy a semo-auto hand gun! :)

BOzo has already shown us that the law of the land is non existent by his traitorous cabinet. So screw Bozo and ignore and gun laws dictated by this bunch of clowns.

Everyone in my family are trained shooters. However, for our own safety, I keep the defense pump with magazine fully loaded and the action open (no round in the chamber). Practice. By the time you have it pointed at a target, you can have a round chambered and be ready to fire.

And, as has been pointed out, the sound of chambering that round may well scare any (sane) intruder away -- saving you much grief and trouble in the aftermath... (Remember, there is no "nice" way to shoot another human being.)

Also, you might check to see if your new shotgun's magazine's capacity is limited (due to hunting laws) by an inserted, removable (often wooden) "plug". Since you will be keeping the gun in the house, remove the plug, and stuff the magazine with as many rounds as it will hold. (Remember, you are starting "short" the one that would otherwise be in the chamber...)

The dog usually sleeps in the hallway at night, sometimes in my office. Both locations could be in my line of fire from the bedroom, depending on circumstances.

We usually sleep with the BR door closed, as does my daughter, whose BR is next to my office at the opposite end of the hallway from our BR.

Those issues are what caused me to delay several months making this decision, worrying they could be in my LoF. (I’m assuming in the heat of the moment I might not hit center of mass, and some pellets could travel down the hallway.)

While I was away I thought of the just as important tool you should have - a good tactical style flashlight. I bet your friend remembers it just as clearly from 20 years ago too!

No worries. I didn’t take it as patronizing.

I need all the help I can get.

In all the old western movies and movies about colonial days, they’ve always got the loaded gun over the front door or over the fireplace.

Nowadays you need one by the front door and one by the back door. Don’t assume that you’re going to be in the bedroom when someone tries to break in.

I love the old old version of “Drums Along the Mohawk”. Especially the way the old granny handled the rifle when the Indians attacked.

Tough people founded this country.

Tough people will keep it free.
