Indirectly? Anyway he can.
My mistake. I have 6 clips with one and a few mags with another. I’ll remember to make that distinction next time. :^)
The next best thing to keeping it loaded:

A gun is one of the tools by which an individual remains independent of the collective -
this is the main reason they hate them.
If you ask the most vehement “gun hater”, they’ll say it’s OK for the police and the military to own them, but not the individual, proving my point.
You want one simple pull to have it ready to go. I my case there is no safety so I leave it loaded but not chambered.
I’ll give another vote for
“loaded but not chambered”.
That’s the whole point behind a pump shotgun - the sound of the round being chambered causing brown stains in the intruder’s pants.
After guns and ammo, get training...
Keep it in the condition you want it to be. If the others in your life object, tell them the gun is absolutely positively off limits to them until they learn how to shoot from an instructor.
Explain to them the gun is off limits even if someone is breaking down the door and you’re not home.
I’m glad to hear that. Most military guys I have ever known have leaned conservative, and knowing that fact makes it seem less probable that Biden might whisper into Obambi’s ear to try such an egregious maneuver. I noticed the old “human rights” charter back in Lenin’s day sounded much like what Obama and his minions harp continuously..right to education, free health care for all, free free free...just not free to own guns.
You need to be trained by a certified firearms instructor.
This is why I need to get some experience with it first. I’m not loading it in the house until I can do that.
The gun store owner showed me the basic operation with a couple of dummy shells. I failed to ask him where I could buy those for operational practice.
That’s the point of getting control of the medical care system -
they can withhold care from anyone that doesn’t obey.
You are another one. Get some training.
OK, I’m guessing that means to load up to 5 shells in the magazine and leave it at that. Then, in an emergency, a single pump and I’m ready.
IOW, don’t load a shell in the top chamber.
As I think it through, I realize I still have a long way to go. Thinking about shooting and killing another person is a high hurdle. Faced with life or death, I am confident I’ll choose the other guy’s death. It’s just thinking about it in advance, when I’m not faced with the choice, that’s the hurdle I need to leap.
Too philosophical, I know.
Interesting.
Take your wife and daughter out shooting and be prepared to be bested by both of them. The few gals that I would take out shooting were very good the first time out. My wife included.
With all adults in the house I would prefer the shotgun loaded, one in the chamber. The sound of the shotgun chambering a round only lets the bad guys know where you are. A gun is to kill, not to scare. Opinions will vary. And 00 Buck Shot is readily available and will put a bad guy down. It will also go through sheetrock walls so have a plan in place and know where your safe shooting zones are. I used to think #4 Birdshot was good, but upon further searching find out it will not penetrate to a bad guy’s vital organs - but very well might chase him off wounded. Again, the use of a firearm is to stop the threat (kill imho) - not chase off, scare, etc.
I need to soft pedal a bit for now. I want to give them reason to appreciate this weapon being in the house. If they still object after a reasonable period of time and effort, then I will have to take the approach you suggest.
Nobody wants that choice and the odds are it doesn’t happen. If the door in my home or a window breaks it is chambered quickly and I’m low. The thought of sympathy to anyone doing that to me I leave to God. My mind is made up.
Find out the laws in your area and reflect upon yourself and your situation. If there is an uninvited stranger in my house they are going down. And if they are an invited stranger they better be awful carefull! (Heck, my kids are instructed to be wary around our adult friends and neighbors.)
