Big, bad Bernard Kerik wants to bunk with the regular Joes -- even if they're accused killers, rapists and muggers.
The disgraced former city police commissioner yesterday refused to ask to be separated from the general population as he spent his first full day in the Westchester County jail. He's been accused of trying to taint the jury pool in his upcoming federal corruption case.
So jail officials made the decision for him -- and hauled him anyway into a segregated wing reserved for cops, judges and other at-risk inmates.
Kerik once was also head of the city's jails, and in 2004 was briefly a nominee to oversee the US Department of Homeland Security.
The 54-year-old, fallen law-enforcement hero -- now inmate No. 210-717 -- was issued a standard orange jumpsuit and put in a single-bed cell at the Valhalla facility.

(snip)Judge Robinson described Mr Kerik as "a toxic combination of self-minded focus and arrogance" as he jailed him before the beginning of his first trial, on Monday.
hauled him anyway into a segregated wing reserved for cops, judges and other at-risk inmatesChicago has the right idea -- just stay on the right side of the Daley machine, and you won't go to jail in the first place.
It’s why a lot of Iraqis move to Chicago. The rules are so similar to Baghdad.
“Mr Kerik is accused of accepting a $250,000 payback in the form of apartment renovations from a company he gave a city contract to.
In 2008 he pleaded guilty in a state court to accepting the work.
Mr Kerik had been regaled as a national hero following the 9/11 terror attacks and in 2004 was nominated for the post of the head of the Department of Homeland Security in 2004.
But he withdrew his name from consideration for the role after he was accused of failing to pay taxes, and of having extramarital affairs.
According to the authorities, Mr Kerik failed to report more than $500,000 in taxable income between 1999 and 2004.
He is also alleged to have made false statements to White House and other federal officials while being considered for the homeland security role. “
Kerik is a saint compared to NY Rep Rangel and has been framed.
Kerick was a good cop, but fell far short as a human being. Just punishment for a friend of Rudy911, FWIW.
Thank you. This is what I wonder, because we can’t count on anything but ‘gotcha’ glee from the MSM. I believe we also heard Kerik had a couple of affairs going on at the same time. It sounds like he’s smart and dumb all at once and.... caught in the web of New York politics.
