Check this out. It’s a surprisingly refreshing and non-partisan editorial from USA Today of all newspapers. It’s also a pretty vicious attack on Obama and the Democrat Congress, as well as the segment of the GOP that was pushing spending and expansion of the Federal government. This, of course, preceded an op-ed in today’s Washington Post that attacked Obama, Tim Kaine, and the DNC.
The tide is turning.
Misleading:
“Democrats have done an extraordinary job of throwing away a reputation for fiscal responsibility earned with the budget surpluses of the Clinton era.”
It was the Clinton era, but the fiscal responsibility was due to a Republcian Congress.
Outright lie:
“After all, most of the $1.4 trillion shortfall for fiscal 2009 was inherited from the Bush administration...”
More than half of the deficit spending came from the Porkulus bill alone. It should be noted that all of the deficit spending came from Democrat controlled Congresses. Bush was definitely culpable in the bank bailouts, but deficits were decreasing prior to the Dems taking control of Congress in 2006.
Forgive me rabscuttle. I should have made it clear that the misleading statement and outright lie were not from you, but from the article. Despite my criticisms I found the article pretty balanced, especially considering the source. Thanks for posting it.
Good ol' USA Today.
What would we ever do without 'em. LOL
