If Newt really wants to run for prez, why the heck did he go out of his way here to tick off the party base??? Maybe he's been out of the game too long. He gambled on Dede and preferred to support 7 Party Bosses than thousands of grassroots conservative Republicans because he wants the Party Boss support for Prez in 2012 - he gambled and lost.

Newt has proven in the past that he has delusional moments that make those around him scratch their heads. It’s worth taking that into account when assessing him has a potential presidential candidate.

McCain did the same thing and the gov. media rewarded him with the republican nomination.
Maybe Newt can run for President and help Obama get re-elected... McCain can give him pointers.

I think he sees how McCain won the nomination, and hopes to do the same. So, he’s trying to improve his standing among “independent/moderates.”
