RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The mastermind of the 2002 Washington, DC-area sniper attacks will die by lethal injection next month, Virginia officials said Tuesday. John Allen Muhammad declined to choose between lethal injection and electrocution, so under state law the method defaults to lethal injection, Virginia Department of Corrections spokesman Larry Traylor said.
Muhammad is scheduled to be executed Nov. 10 for the October 2002 slaying of Dean Harold Meyers at a Manassas gas station during a string of shootings.
The three-week killing spree in October 2002 left 10 dead in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Yes. I forget the exact number, but I think they had computer records of the two perps passing through check points set up after the shootings about a dozen times. But they didn’t notice until after they were arrested—no thanks to Moose. It would have been an elementary method to go through the records and check out any drivers who came up more than once at the checkpoints—but they didn’t bother.
Well, what are the odds he really will die next month? I’m sure there will be more appeals. Maybe the Wise Latina Woman will let him off.

didn’t use a van - shot from the trunk of an older sedan (impala?) with the seat folded down and the trunk lid propped up...they also lived in the car...his ex said recently it was an elaborate ruse to shoot her w/o any suspicion falling on him...she would just be a random vic like the rest...don’t care much how he goes so long as he goes pdq...

I shoulda put a sarc tag on my comment. Right up to the day they were caught, everybody was looking for a white van, all the while they used that full sized sedan.
All sorts of things can go wrong. Just like injections - sometimes they can't find a vein. What if he ballooned up in jail and they can't find a neck?
What I remember most about this story, was the fact it was so huge and it dominated the summer tv coverage. Until the perps didnt fit the profile the media had portrayed all summer long (angry cgristian white guy). Once they were found out to be muslim nut jobs, this story vanished off the radar promptly
I was living in Maryland at the time. I read later that cops, who threw up checkpoints after several of the shooting scenes, recorded Muhammad and Malvo’s car and license plate several times, each in different locations near the crime scenes. A totalk of 8-10 times overall. Nothing ever happened, no one connected the dots. Christ, Barney Fife ccould have done that!
That racist buffoon Chief Moose, who got a bunch of lawsuit money from a hotel chain he said discrimanated against him when he was a chief in Oregon before this, wrote a book about the sniper case (If I was him, I wouldn’t brag about my role) and got into hot water with the county who employed him about the money he made.
The DC affirmative action hire-equally clueless during the sniper rampage was Charles Ramsey-now working his magic in Philly.

...you’re exactly right my friend!....it was I-70 and I believe it was a trucker that noticed the killer’s car and called it in....if I remember right the trucker then applied for the reward money...but I don’t know if he ever got it.
....their car was a Chevy with the back seat removed...they could crawl straight back to the trunk and shoot thru a peep hole....the fact that they went to the trouble to modify the vehicle specifically for killing innocent people was chilling.
Muhammad was an angry black guy that converted to Islam...I expect more of this kind of thing in the future...in Virginia, victim’s relatives can come to the execution....there should be quite a number of people requesting a seat....here’s a woman coming all the way from Tuscon:

The good news here is that this seems to be the quickest real justice is ever doled out these days. 7 years to die. Usually it’s more like 50.
