A-bomb cities extend invitation to Obama

A speech and a Nobel prize have raised hopes in Japan that Barack Obama will become the first sitting U.S. president to visit Hiroshima or Nagasaki, the two cities leveled by atom bombs in World War II.

But the issue is seen as a political minefield, and U.S. officials say it is unlikely Obama will visit either city during a two-day stop in Tokyo next month.

Yesterday, the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki went to the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo to formally invite Obama to their cities before a U.N. review of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty in May.

Sunao Tsuboi, 84, who survived the Hiroshima bombing despite severe burns, is part of a growing chorus of survivors, student groups and newspaper editorials urging Obama to come.

“Obama has a vision for humanity. . . . We want to show him our support,” said Tsuboi, co-chairman of a nationwide organization for atomic bomb survivors. “I’m a victim, and I’ve overcome. We want to join with President Obama to create a peaceful world.”

The White House declined to comment on the invitation. The decision to drop the bombs is viewed by many Americans as a pragmatic decision to avoid a bloody invasion of Japan and to end the war that Japan started by attacking the United States at Pearl Harbor.

He's not going to the Berlin Well commemoration in Germany but he'll probably think hard about accepting this invitation. Think of the apology speech he could give for this act of American atrocity.

You read my mind. How can he even hesitate at another chance to apologise for Americans refusing to be slaughtered like sitting ducks? Evil wicked Americans, refusing to just lay down and die.

“Evil wicked Americans, refusing to just lay down and die.”

Americans who knew, according to modern lefty dogma, that our conventional warfighting tactics were working, we were on the verge of winning the war anyway, Japan was on its last legs, would soon fall, etc., so dropping the bombs was totally unnecessary and only done because we are vicious barbarians.

Yes, if he passes on this, 0-balmy will forever regret he lost the chance to give an A-bomb-sized apology for America.

WHEN THE ATOM BOMB FELL
(Karl & Harty)

Oh it went up so loud it divided up the clouds
And the houses did vanish away.
And a great a ball of light filled the Japanese with fright.
They must have thought it was their judgment day

Smoke and fire it did flow through the land of Tokyo,
There was brimstone and dust everywhere.
When it all cleared away there the cruel Japs did lay.
The answer to our fighting boys’ prayers,
Yes, Lord, the answer to our fighting boys’ prayers.

There was no atheist in a foxhole
And men who never prayed before
Lifted tired and bloodshot eyes to heaven
And begged the Lord to end that awful war.

They told Him of their homes and loved ones.
They told Him that they’d like to be there.
I believe the bomb that struck Hiroshima
Was the answer to our fighting boys’ prayers.

Oh it went up so loud it divided up the clouds
And the houses did vanish away.
And a great a ball of light filled the Japanese with fright.
They must have thought it was their judgment day.

Smoke and fire it did flow through the land of Tokyo
There was brimstone and dust everywhere
When it all cleared away there the cruel Japs did lay
The answer to our fighting boys’ prayers
Yes, Lord, the answer to our fighting boys’ prayers

Yes how accommodating of them to just ignore those stretches of beaches where Japanese were willing to fight down to the last man-namely ours.

Sure I’ll come. We’ll start off with golf right after arrival. Then I’ll condemn nuclear weapons, war, the US, and anything else appropriate. After lunch, we’ll do golf and then I’ll get the hell out of there since I have golf scheduled the next day back in the USA. I’ll leave Michelle behind to amuse y’all.

Then again, he might think that Clinton’s apology was sufficient.
Then again, maybe not.
