Video: Hoffman Attacked By DCCC, NRCC (GOP ad against conservative Hoffman)
National Review ^ | Oct. 27, 2009 | Guy Benson

Watching these clips back-to-back is simply remarkable. Here we have a mainstream conservative candidate, running in a consistently center-right district, being assailed by both major parties.

The Democrats, recognizing the official "Republican" candidate's slide into the abyss, have turned their fire on viable (front-running?) third-party candidate, Doug Hoffman. Well, hello, politics of personal destruction and shameless class warfare:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15L_TaolOqg&feature=player_embedded

Minor details like Hoffman's humble upbringing (which also shouldn't be an issue), and his lifetime of hard work, are ignored. The success he's earned is used to bludgeon him — which, ironically, reflects the prevailing Democratic position on taxation.

The Republican ad isn't any better:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mw7Bzh21DQ&feature=player_embedded

Did they record those voice-overs in someone's garage?

Hoffman once supported civil unions? Outrage! Good thing the actual GOP candidate is rock-solid on that whole marriage issue, right? Oops.

Hoffman doesn't even live in the 23rd district! What a carpet-bagger ... except the charge is misleading and irrelevant.

"Doug Hoffman: Running from himself" is the NRCC ad's tagline. Pitiful. In the NRCC's defense, however, it's still a bit better line than the Scozzafava camp's apparent new rallying cry: "Sprinting towards irrelevancy."

Posting this to all pertinent threads, so these folks can no longer hide behind a faceless organization while they do their dirty work. The NRCC is doing *more* damage than Gingrich and even Steele. And they're doing it mostly behind the scenes -- Gingrich and Steele don't have to get re-elected next year, and every member of the NRCC executive committee does.

With that, I give you:

Photobucket

The National Republican Congressional Committee

Rep. John Carter, TX (in pic, far left)

Rep. Eric Cantor, VA (third from left)

Rep. John Boehner, OH (fourth from left)

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, WA

Rep. Pete Sessions, TX (sixth from left)

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, MI (not pictured)

Note: Rep. Mike Pence, second from left, strenuously objected to Scozzafava, and refused to endorse her or send her money. In retaliation, pro-leftist house members like those above anonymously told reporters that Pence isn't supporting Dede because he's anti-woman.

Rush,on his show yesterday, said that he thought that a vote for Hoffman wasn’t a good idea because he was a third party candidate.First time I ever disagreed with Rush.

Really? I didn’t hear it, but from what I’ve read Rush said that because this was a special election with no primary, his normal opposition to third parties doesn’t apply.

This is the reason why I do not contribute to the national GOP.

I send my money directly to candidates as I know it will be spent for what I support.

Michael Steele be damned.

Does Hoffman live in the district or not? I’m sure that would make a difference to a lot of voters.

Here’s the background on that:

http://rsmccain.blogspot.com/2009/10/ny23-newt-does-dedes-dirty-work.html

From the post:
OK, this is a non-issue, and has been explained several times. Doug Hoffman’s hometown, Saranac Lake, is in the 23rd District. Hoffman’s current residence is about a 15-minute drive away in Lake Placid, which was also in the 23rd District — until the (then) GOP-controlled New York legislature gerrymandered the district!

Essentially, the corrupt Republican leadership in Albany were trying to make (then) Rep. John Sweeney’s 20th District “safer” for the GOP incumbent. (Sweeney, a former state party staff lawyer, had himself carpetbagged into that district.) Sweeney was tainted by his Abramoff connection, had paid campaign cash to his wife, etc., was defeated in 2006. He alcohol problems landed him a DUI (he blew an 0.18!) in 2007, and another arrest in April of this year.

Class act, this Sweeney, then, the GOP hatchet-man for whom the districts were re-drawn in 2001, putting Hoffman’s home in Lake Placid a few miles south of the 23rd District line. Hoffman has been up-front about this all along, and has promised to move into the re-drawn 23rd if he wins on Nov. 3.

So it’s a total non-issue, and Dede Scozzafava won’t raise it herself because it’s a cheap shot and everybody knows it. Instead, she and the NY-GOP send surrogates out to spread this “doesn’t-live-in-the-district” stuff against Hoffman.

To see Newt Gingrich playing errand boy for Dede on national TV is just astonishing.

I didn’t use the exact same words he used, but that’s what he said. I don’t recall the exact wording he used, but he did mention that it wasn’t good to go for the third party candidate.

We had a similar situation here in PA-10 last year. Don't discount it. Even a couple miles will make a difference to some voters. If they're on the fence it could be the deciding factor. Nothing can be done about it now. I'd like to see Hoffman win but residence is a legitimate issue.

..IMO attacks on conservatives by these two-faced GOP types will have the same effect as Britain using Hessian soldiers in the Revolutionary War—support for the cause will increase ...

...not a good idea to go for the 3rd party candidate IN MOST INSTANCES... but this is different as there was no primary.

From Rush himself,at rushlimbaugh.com:
"Third parties lose. Speaking personally, I am not interested in creating another Reform Party like Perot did, like Buchanan did. It's a losing proposition."

“but from what I’ve read Rush said that because this was a special election with no primary, his normal opposition to third parties doesn’t apply.”

I don’t listen to Rush because I’m hearing impaired, but if the above is what Rush said, then my comment here is that I believe he’s right on the mark.

Oh geez. Rush has specifically said NY-23 is not a “third party race”: http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_102709/content/01125109.guest.html

OK, does that put this to bed?

Rush did not say that. Go get the transcript from yesterday.
