NY-23: Steele factually wrong while talking with Hannity; Scozzafava is for card check

RNC Chairman Michael Steele needs to do his homework before going back on Sean Hannity's radio show. Today, Hannity asked him about the Republican National Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee's support of the liberal Republican in the race against Conservative Party and Republican Doug Hoffman for the House seat vacated by John McHugh. Here's a brief excerpt; listen closely to Steele disputing Hannity about Scozzafava's position on card check:

The two sources of proof that Michael Steele is mistaken are Dede Scozzafava and Dede Scozzafava, in writing and on tape.

On Oct 19, 2009, the all things liberal labor In These Times reported:

In These Times obtained a copy of a candidate questionnaire from the AFL-CIO's legislative department. In that document, Scozzafava pledged to co-sponsor EFCA with card check, as did her Democratic opponent Bill Owens. To wit:

If elected, would you co-sponsor and vote for the Employee Free Choice Act (S.800/H.R. 1041), which passed the House by a vote of 241-185 on March 1, 2007 but was blocked by a Senate filibuster in June, 2007 (the Senate failed to invoke cloture by a vote of 51-48 vote)?

The Employee Free Choice Act, introduced by Senator Kennedy in the Senate and Representative George Miller in the House, would require employers to honor their workers’ decision to join a union after a majority of them signed a union authorization card or petition; establishes first contract mediation and arbitration; and creates meaningful penalties against employers who interfere with, coerce or fire workers for attempting to join a union. OWEN [sic]– YES, DEDE - YES

That same day, John McCormack of The Weekly Standard reported:

"I asked Assemblywoman Scozzafava if she supports card check. "Yes, yes I do," she replied."

The Scozzafava campaign quickly backtracked after first alleging that John McCormark yelled at her while asking questions. They did so when he played the full audio of the incident for the Associated Press and they confirmed his version of events.

Before the last shred of their credibility is lost, perhaps Newt Gingrich and Michael Steele should ask John McCormack if they can also listen to that audio.

These clueless Republican leaders are not paying attention. They have not looking into what Sozzafava does, or does not stand for. They have completely relied upon recommendations of their staff, who have queried the state and local Republican Party officials and have gotten reassurances that she is a “true Republican”.

Such stupidity and laziness will not help them much going forward, we are all growing tired of it.

Steele needs to go. If the RNC is scared to fire a black man- then replace him with the guy from Ohio to save face-but Steele has to go.

Yup, Steele got it wrong on card check. Scozzafava is supporting it BIG TIME. That looms as large for me as any issue I might have with her social liberalism.

These clowns make the idiots at the White House look like geniuses. How can they justify to their donors the hundreds of thousand dollars wasted on a third place finish in NY-23 and nothing spent on CA-10 where Harmer could be close to a win? They are poster boys of incompetence.

Steele and Newt are short on facts. Short on understanding that the right side of the “big tent” has been sliced off and disappeared into the night. It’s gone. Won’t return.

Is there anyone out there who is actually surprised that the RNC and Republican establishment have no clue whatsoever as to what Sozzafava’s positions are?

I wish we could gather the support to create a Conservative National Committee and a Conservative National Campaign Committee et al.

You know what is so disappointing about these people is, Sergeant Tim? I bother to check out all of my facts before I make a decision. The establishment Republicans don’t bother. They have lived so long in the world of faxed talking points that they just live in that world. They don’t seem capable of looking at reality any longer.

Given his history, Steele might be behaving foolishly, but do you really think Newt is that stupid?

I don't. To me, such an appearance is a cover of plausible deniability.

As I understand it, the RNC head's job is primarily fund raising. The second job is to know the candidates.

I doubt Steele can function as a fund raiser. He's more than documented his lack of knowledge of the candidates.

Why is he still drawing salary and expense money?

The Republican Party is run by Liberals. This election is exposing them, but they will probably not be held accountable.

The dude used to be Lt. Governor of my state, The Peoples Republic of Merlin (that’s Mary Land to youse guys). I used to have some respect for him but listening to his weaseling today re: ScuzzieFussy erased any that I had. Apparently someone removed his and Newt’s testicles. Sarah Palin probably has a great recipe for RINO nuts.
