As a Democrat in a very red state, Idaho Congressman Walt Minnick knew from the day he was elected that he would have a hard time holding on to his seat in 2010. But there's also an interesting tale to be told about just which candidate the Republicans will put up to run against Minnick.
Political blogger Randy Stapilus has the story about how Ken Roberts, the majority leader of the Idaho House, has racked up a slew of statehouse endorsements and is well-plugged into the Idaho GOP establishment - but now looks like he could get swamped by newcomer Vaughn Ward.
The new campaign finance reports show that Ward, an Iraq War veteran who also worked for the CIA and as a congressional aide, has raised nearly $243,000, far out-distancing the $62,000 raised by Roberts.

This is not a bad time to playing the outsider card, and it seems particularly so in Republican circles these days. Many Republican base voters, as unhappy as they are with the Obama administration and the Democrats in Congress, are also pretty alienated from their own party leadership.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has made much of her own willingness to "go rogue" on the Republican establishment, has endorsed Hoffman. So far, she hasn't gotten involved in the Idaho race, but her father, Chuck Heath, and her father-in-law, Jim Palin, both did a series of campaign events in Idaho for Ward.

Idaho ping to you, sir.
This is why the NY-23 race with Hoffman is so important. We are sending a warning shot across the bow of the RNC.

The RNC establishment’s crying in their mojitos because of the latest developments. This is good :)
Just came from a meeting of the Republican Party of Florida. All the talk is Marco Rubio and electing conservatives. I am really pumped up. We are growing this momentum from grass roots. Ronald Reagan would be proud. Go Mr. Hoffman. We support you, sir.

I believe Going Rogue will become a real catch phrase very soon. One that will strike fear in the hearts of every Blue Dog and RINO coast to coast.
A state committee meeting or some sort of dinner or rally?
We stratergized and discussed ways to reach the public. In attendance were University of Miami and Florida International University students that run their Republican Clubs within the universities. Also, 9-12 Project and others. Good meeting.
