NEW YORK | Former New York Gov. George Pataki on Thursday endorsed Doug Hoffman, the conservative candidate for the special congressional election to a seat in upstate New York next month.

Mr. Pataki announced his support for Mr. Hoffman at a Conservative Party fundraiser at the New York Athletic Club. Mr. Pataki said he has a farm in the 23rd congressional district and I know that district inside and out.

John Bolton, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, also backed Mr. Hoffman at the event.

Why doesn’t Scozz do us all a favor and just bow out of the race. She, and what passes for GOP locals, is such an embarrassment to the national GOP that even RINOs are opposing her.

Hoffman is using the Reagan method for building a majority and rejecting the Newt's method. Reagan presented conservative positions on the economy, on foreign policy and on America and asked Americans to join with him.

Hoffman has staked out conservative positions and has asked people to join him. He's gotten nationally-known people from Palin to the moderate Pataki to come on board.

Newt's method to attempt to build a majority is to support anyone with an R behind their name, who appears to have a chance at winning. That includes supporter famous 'R's' like Arlen Specter, now a 'D' and sinking fast; Jim Jeffords, went from 'R' to 'I' to give the US Senate to the 'D's'; Lincoln Chafee, went from 'R' to 'U', ie unemployed.

For Newt, it's vital to have an 'R' majority at any price. How'd that actually work out for Newt in practice? Newt's major accomplishment in his life was the Contract with America. He used it to gain the 'R' majority in Congress and in the first 100 days, brought all 10 items to a vote, passed 9, (term limits, we need you now more than ever). Newt took the approval ratings for Congress from 22% to something like 60%. That approval peaked with the passage of the Contract with America in May, then started declining in August '94 as it became clear that the Contract with America was dying in the Senate, the natural home of the RINO.

How's that 'R' at any price worked for you, Newt?

I wonder if there some internals out there that shows Hoffman with the lead? If so you’ll see the people that want a future in politics back Hoffman.

“a moderate pro-choice member of the state legislature”
She’s no moderate. She’s a liberal’s dream come true.
