Economic Recovery: The White House says it "created or saved" 650,000 to 1 million jobs through its stimulus. Maybe so, but only if you count the jobs that never existed in the first place.
The administration's claim is as laughable as any in recent memory. There is no actual count of jobs; it's all based on phony math. While it was at it, it could just as well have said 2 million or 3 or 4.
No question, this has been a hard recession in terms of jobs. Since it began in December 2007, we've lost 7.2 million of them 4.1 million this year alone despite a promise that passage of the $787 billion stimulus would yield 3.5 million new ones by the end of 2010.
Knowing the number was unreachable, the White House's ever-eager-to-please economists came up with a guess one that can serve as a down payment on the 3.5 million jobs they need to show by 2011.
"We're solidly on track to create 3.5 million jobs by the time this (stimulus) program winds down," White House economist Jared Bernstein told CNN Friday. "There's a lot more ammunition in that Recovery Act. The stimulus package is absolutely working, both in GDP terms and in terms of saving or creating jobs."

I think it was Reaganomics.
Except that Reaganomics worked!
Hey, a job is a job, is a job...
Don't nitpick.
The Messiah is turning the economy upside down the best way he can. ; )
I said it before, and I’ll say it again: The last accurate job statistic this country ever saw was Ross Perot’s “giant sucking sound”.
That's what it was labeled but it was far from it!
If one is a Fascist, yep we are on the right track.
Government jobs are soon to be plentiful.
SEIU healthcare ‘professionals’ are in our future don’tchaknow.
Government sanctioned professionals that are street wise via corrupt upbringing.
How did we get to this point politically?
What few want to admit is that there are many jobs going begging. My yahoo is constantly receiving job offers.
I have casual acquaintances who just completed a few classes at ISU. No degree. No experience. (and probably no green card.) They had numerous job offers in the $50,000 range.
Go to DICE or Careerbuilder or look at the many signs in the store windows.
Over 15 jobs open and begging at just that one supermarket I shopped at this evening. Some 10/hr some 15/hr. Only one on the list was scratched out and marked “filled”. I suspect it was scratched out by an applicant who really wanted that job.
We have become a society of lazy people who are looking for any excuse such as “recession” to justify their not working. And rather than tell these lazy people to take the job that is available, Obama&Co want to extend unemployment comp and punish the working people to enable those addicted to laziness to continue in their laziness.
He actually is a businessman and earns a real living.
It was a term GHW Bush used against Reagan. It showed that Bush was, at his heart, a Keynesian who didn’t believe in supply side economics (also called classical, Hayekian, Austrian, Reaganomics, etc.). When he hiked taxes, paving the way for the election of Clinton, he proved it.
Republicans lacking a belief in the free market are as bad as Democrats. In fact, they may be worse since the confuse the public and give the statists cover.
I created those jobs!
Brawk Uhhbummer is the debil!
Why work when they just keep extending unemployment benefits? What’s it up to now - 3 years? There are jobs out there, but we have way too many lazy, fat a**es in this country.
We have become a society of lazy people who are looking for any excuse such as recession to justify their not working.
My girlfriend has been trying to hire people for her retail store. Lots of e-mail responses, but when they come in, they are invariably not really interested in working very hard. If the situation is easy enough or if they don't have to do more than one type of work, they'll take the job...for a while. Fortunately, she has no problem with immediately firing losers. :)
Most of the candidates who come in are incredibly one-dimensional - and useless in an environment where multi-tasking is everything.
