You are so busy being mad at other conservatives that you are not focusing on the final goal.

Except the problem is the final goal is to replace all Conservatives in the GOP with moderates - Eagle Eye pointed out the nice little moderate run of Bush, Dole, Bush, and McCain, covering the last 20 years of moderate GOP presidential candidates. A lot of us are sick at the prospect of another 20 years of moderate GOP candidates.

Christ is the only thing that ian’t a strawman.

No, Christ isn't a strawman, but trying to drag religion into a moderate versus Conservative debate thread and take it off course is.

If you want to debate the issue at hand - third parties, moderates, Conservatives, I'm all ears.

And if you read my posts there is nothing in them that says I want a moderate. NO WHERE did I say settle. I said exert the conservative principles and take our party back.

And what happens when we get another moderate candidate in 2012, 2016, 2020...are we just supposed to keep telling ourselves that some day we will take the party back? Are we supposed to mindlessly vote for the GOP candidate?

The only thing the party listens to is money for now. We have our votes, but until we use them elsewhere, the party will rightfully assume we'll be obedient little Republicans and will vote for whom we are told to vote.

Hoffman is a warning to the party - you can no longer assume that Conservatives are going to put up with this moderate/liberal crap. Sarah Palin, bless her heart, she may not be what I want in a politician, but she's been winning me over, and it's the same with Beck. I can ignore him being a Mormon and a Libertarian and can agree with his opinion that the days of the GOP's big tent philosophy are over and that third parties maybe the answer.

I have no problem with what Hoffman and the Hoffman supporters have done.

I have NEVER advocated mindlessly voting for anyone for anything. That was not my point. Eagle Eye was saying he would never vote for the GOP. That’s not my position at all

So cool your jets. We agree more than we disagree

My apologies, things have just finally come to a head and I've been riled up about it and you're right, we do agree more than disagree. I just keep hearing idiots telling me to stay with the GOP, things will get better, and yet we've got a 20 year string of moderate Republicans running for the White House, and the last two - Bush and McCain, both wanted amnesty for criminals who illegally entered our country.

Yes, why should a strong conservative have to leave the Republican party and become a 3rd party - RNC needs to wake up and smell the coffee. We’re SICK and TIRED of candidates like the liberal woman who dropped out in NY-23...We start now, today, to take back the Republican party, NOT give up and start a new one - that’s just giving the election to DEMOCRATS!

IMO, if she can't win the Republican primary, she wouldn't win the election as a 3rd party. Sadly.

If the GOP nominating process is front loaded with liberal states that permit cross-party voting, Palin will not be the candidate. Repeat. She WILL NOT be the candidate. So it may be third party, or nothing.

Yeah, you know, you're right. I forgot about how we got stuck with McAmnesty.

Well, I'd rather see her take back the GOP, but I would vote for her no matter what party she ran for.

I remember back in 1972 and again in 1976 being a huge supporter of someone whom the party leaders would NEVER consider for the ticket. He was this loony governor ex movie star guy who was waaaay to old and stupid to be useful. he had no Washington ‘gravitas’ and should never be considered for the top spot on the GOP ticket. And then in 1980, there he was again. Still standing tall, still speaking truth to power, still bound by principles that rang a bell with so many of us....yes indeed Ronald Reagan.

I stayed in the party. I worked as hard as I could for the candidates that I thought would best represent me and there were times that I wrote in names or voted for a third party or even a democrat because the republican was too puky.

I don't know if the GOP is salvageable. I am willing to try to fix it. But like the folks in upstate NY, I will back the most conservative candidate before I vote for another RINO.

I did not vote for Bush the elder in 92 nor did I vote for W the dunce in 04. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. I could not stomach voting for the dem lites of the northeastern blue bloods.

You and I and folks like us are the only hope this country has. I think we still maybe have a fighting chance of making head way back to reasonableness. Let's keep at it, get conservatives elected, and remember to fire the shots to the outside of the circle ...;)
