"...a New York congressional seat that became a fight over the identity of the Republican Party."

That describes it. The NY Republican Party lost that seat.

So heavily Republican it was won by both Obama and Gore.

Interesting point.

Before the election, the media described the 23rd as liberal leaning or “purple”. Now the rat wins and it’s heavily GOP.

WHY did the RAT win?

Because he got the most votes.

Yeah the polls looked good going in. In Jersey I was worried about the corrupt stealing the election.

I guess this is what passes for a “conservative” district in New York.

Thanks, this helps but I was so sure Hoffman would win. I expected NJ to be the problem.

So heavily Republican it was won by both Obama and Gore.

So heavily Republican that the Democrats haven't held the seat for 160 years. New York Republicans tend to be more moderate than in other areas of the country, and past congressmen from that district tend to show that. If Hoffman runs again it 2012 then he'll have to bring back those Republicans who voted against him yesterday.

It was a very narrow Owens victory.

He won by four percentage points. It wasn't that narrow.

NEWT went for SCUZZIE early while knowing she was a liberal RINO.....he didn't believe what has been before his eyes since APRIL’s uprising ...and....AND is still growing...
..he had better get his **** together or he should write yet another book to confess why he thinks the USA needs to go Socialistic.

The worst part is that I think the party in NW will push Hoffman to the side or black ball him completely, because he showed up the GOP canidate. He is more Conservative but that I think will not matter.

There needs to be ONE candidate for the GOP. And a Conservative one... not a RINO. Dede was too weak to win anything... but the fact that the she was the R on the ballot and the earlier cast absentee votes enabled her to be the perfect tool for the ‘rats to deny Hoffman the win.

The whole point is we got rid of that skank Scuzzy! Hoffman, an unknown conservative, albeit not a republican held it close. This was in spite of a majority of the republican's and the republican party putting all their money a resources behind a LIBERAL!

This is at the very least a good turn of events for republican's.

This election was just to fill the seat until next year. By the time November rolls around again even the brain dead voters of the 23rd will have had their fill of Democrats. There will be so many battles the Democrats will have to fight next year that they won’t be able to pour the money and resources into the NY-23 that they did this time. This seat will return to the Republicans in 12 months.
