My son who is in the army said that at his base the Moslems are given easy ways out of the military with honnorable discharges or, he thinks, medical discharges.

Is six years normal for an Army doctor to get promoted from O-3 to O-4? This promotion occurs automatically after one year in practice, post-residency. It doesn't signify anything.
Medical School: 2d Lt.
Between Med school and residency: 1st Lt. (about 4 weeks)
Residency: Captain.
First year after residency: Captain.
> 1 year in practice: Major.
Promotions are based on merit after that.

The enemy combatant was dressed in full jihad regalia as he was buying his morning coffee. Ms. Anderson Cooper thought nothing of it. Someone else postulated that he was just dressing for comfort. "What the hell did he do with those missing years? There is our answer!" Yep...I'm exactly one year older than this dipsh!t. I was commissioned in '91 and pinned on Captain in '95. If I had stayed in, I'd be a LTC now. Granted, I didn't seek a medical degree, but there are still a bunch of missing years in there, and I doubt we'll ever hear much about what happened in those intervening years, precisely because it would explain too much.
