Election puts 10 Dems on high alert

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) says Tuesday’s Republican victories in Virginia and New Jersey should be a “wake-up call” for Democrats in Congress.

Here are 10 likely to be hearing alarm bells.

Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.)

No one noticed the election results more than Reid’s advisers, who know he faces a situation similar to that which befell New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine.

Like Corzine, Reid is an unpopular incumbent running in a state whose economy is in the tank. And like Corzine, he’ll have to use his massive war chest to create a negative impression of his opponent in order to persuade Nevada voters to send him to the Senate for a fifth term.

But it didn’t work for Corzine, and Reid knows that he’s going to have to create a positive impression of what his influence in Washington has done for regular folks back home.

Adding to Reid’s problems is that he’s suffering in Nevada from being a national leader, meaning that how President Barack Obama’s agenda is perceived back home will have an enormous impact on his ability to win reelection.

On the Senate floor Wednesday morning, Reid made no mention of his party’s big losses in New Jersey and Virginia, instead pointing to the lone bright spots for Democrats — victories in two House special elections, including one in upstate New York that had long been a GOP stronghold.

“Republicans are the ‘party of no,’ and that’s why in New York, a congressional district that for 150 years has been Republican went Democratic,” Reid said. “The American people see what’s going on in this Congress.”

“The American people see what’s going on in this Congress.”

Yes, this is true. And they are going to do something about it next year.

Harry, say hello to Tom Daschle. Maybe you guys can do something together now that you are no longer Senators.

The scary thing about Dingy Harry is that Obama will simply appoint him to Czar position and nobody will be able to vote him out.

Reid said. “The American people see what’s going on in this Congress.”

Yes, unfortunately for Reid, they do. America is waking up and Americans don't like what they've seen. He's toast!

Lincoln has to walk away from Cap and trade and health care or she is toast. I don’t think Harry is worried, he has a job with O anyway.

No one is going to “hear” anything. They’ve already been bought off, bribed, cajoled, or otherwise threatened by Hussein. Moreover, they KNOW that if they just get this thing passed, along with amnesty, they can come back in a couple of years and NEVER leave again.

There’ll be nothing to come back to. They’ll have to live in fortified compounds.

I seriously doubt that. They will have armies of welfare dependents and old people and illegals buffering them. There isn’t going to be a “revolution.” It’s a whimper, not a bang.

Harry has as much dirt in his background as Daschle does so it may be easy to shame him out also. Once he has no power Obama won’t need him. He wanted Daschle for his knowledge and contacts on “inside politics.”

I live in Delaware County Pa.(suburban Philly). A former Rd area that has trended blue the last few years.A friend just ran for commissioner in one of the townships (he is Dem). I spoke with him last night to congratulate him on his win. He told me he had run into much much anger at DC and Dems in particular while canvassing the last few weeks before the election. He also related the dissatisfaction with Dems is obvious with the returns in this county with them getting clobbered for the first time in years. I was frankly surprised (and pleased) by what he told me. I guess this is turning around.

“Republicans are the ‘party of no,’...

I wonder how much mileage this little sound-byte is really going to get? I mean, the democrats don't need a single republican vote, for anything. They have the house, the senate, and the presidency. So what if the republicans are the 'party of no'?

More than the Dems think, but in reverse. If they have yet to understand that "NO" is exactly what the majority wants to here then they are deaf to the voice of the voters.
