Munley’s former partner says she saved his life

When Wrightsville Beach police detective Shaun Appler pulled over a suspected drunk driver in 2000, he couldn’t have foreseen the dangerous situation that was about to ensue.

Thankfully Appler’s partner, Kimberly Munley, was there to save his life.

While Appler was talking to the driver of the vehicle, a third man approached the detective and interjected himself into the discussion. Appler said he asked the third man to leave, when he didn’t, the detective tried to arrest him.

A struggle ensued, and the two men eventually rolled down a hill. When they came to a stop, the man was straddling Appler, reaching for the handgun holstered on the detective’s belt.

Suddenly, Munley appeared, leaped onto the man’s back, yanked him off of Appler and forced him into handcuffs.

At that point, Appler said, he heard the theme to Mighty Mouse playing over in his head: “Here I come to save the day.”

From that time forward, Appler called Munley: “Mighty Mouse.”

Now Munley, a police officer in Fort Hood, Texas, has involved herself in an incident that is shaking the nation’s core, when an Army psychiatrist about to be deployed overseas conducted a mass shooting in which more than a dozen people were killed and several more were severally wounded.

If it wasn’t for Munley, who arrived within minutes of reports of gunfire with her partner, more people would likely have died, authorities said.

Munley was herself wounded by a bullet before she shot Maj. Nida Malik Hasan, 39, ending his rampage through a medical processing center in this army outpost on Thursday, Nov. 5, according to news reports.

A good substitution for the old, “God made men equal, Colonel Colt made them unequal”

What makes you think there wasn't a Copy Editor around? It was probably checked by journalist with a degree in "communications". That's right on par with a degree in education.

Good post potlatch

Four (4) shots into the insane Muzzie traitor

And he is still alive

Somebody send Munley a nice tuned Colt .45 pistol

Women can handle them

When you absolutely need to put a creep down and out

You can never have too much gun!

I have not had much time to read a lot about all of this. She is a Policewoman, right? Shouldn’t she have a certain type of gun, are there rules about that?

Do we know how far away from Hasan she was when she was shooting him? I don’t know any of that. I am impressed that she ‘hit’ him 4 times, even if it wasn’t a ‘killing’ shot.

I have heard the expression the other way a great many times but have not ever heard it the way you wrote it.

Her partner(?s) may have gotten some shots in too

A 9mm or .38 is a lame choice for a stopper

The German 9mm Luger cartridge or the Walther .380 and .32 were cute - but the NAZIS love to get their hands on a Colt 1911 .45 pistol

The Germans actually manufactured some Colt clone .45s in some Scandanavia countries during WWII

A 9mm can go right through your arm and not stop you

Kimberly Munley was shot in her leg by a 5.7mm bullet and it did not stop her

I would venture she carried a 9mm or a .38

Unlikely a .40 or a .45

At least a .357 Mag with hotloads at the minimum

Using a small caliber handgun just makes the bad guys madder

I prefer a revolver because pistols can jam

A revolver misfire - just rotate that big old cylinder and nail the creep cold

-

If I have time and a good scope I can put a .22lr HP in an ear or an eyeball - the slug will bounce around inside the brainpan and scamble some eggs

But for close wetwork - a dependable large caliber well-balanced revolver will come through for you -

1-2 in the upper body mass will make the donuts

Six cartridges not enough? Carry two revolvers!
