Health plan adds billions in fees, taxes

President Obama says his health-care overhaul -- which squeaked through the House last night -- won't hurt a bit, but taxpayers are going to feel it in their wallet.

The $1.2 trillion plan, which passed by a razor-thin 220 to 215, imposes new tax surcharges on Americans who fail to buy insurance as well as businesses that don't provide coverage to their employees.

One Republican joined 219 Democrats in voting for the measure in the super-tight vote -- just barely more than the 218 members required to pass it.

The legislation, which features a government-run insurance option for people who don't get insurance through work, expands coverage to almost all people under the age of 65 and bans insurance companies from dropping customers because of a pre-existing condition.

But the Republicans had their fun as well -- waving a mocking goodbye to their counterparts and chanting "Na na na, hey hey, goodbye" -- suggesting the legislation would lead to electoral defeat.

Reminds me of the scene in the movie THE HIT, when after Terrance Stamp rats on the mob, the mobbed up guys in the court start singing "We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when..."

Joe Cao from Louissianna the sole republican to vote for this travesty. I never heard of him before, but I wont forget his name now. A name that will live in infamy.

Most of the Dems that voted against it were given permission by Pelosi to vote that way because they know that their seats had a potential to be in serious jeopardy she wants to hold on to her majority in 2010.
This is a game there is no integrity in that party.

Yes. They all waited until the vote total reached 218.

DO NOT BE FOOLED!

Every Dim needs to be fought in every district until this socialist infection is completely eradicated.

Let the slow-witted morons in the decaying urban districts be the only ones still represented by Waters, Payne, Rangel, Weiner, Maloney, Nadler, Ackerman, et. al.

And also don't think that this is over. Just because Frau Facelift got her way in this round doesn't mean that we're willing to bend over and grab our ankles.

I call top bunk. Cuz I’m not paying, either.

I’m going to be ready to take every penny out of the bank, so ‘they’ can’t fine/confiscate it in the future.

Obozoz had two wins this week the America hater allowed a terrorist remain unchecked in the Army and this economy killing bill. We must work on the senate Reid is gone no matter what, there are others to put on the list. From CQ site “The playing field for the 2010 Senate elections is relatively even, with the Republicans defending 18 seats that will be on state ballots and the Democrats also defending 18, including two in New York, which has a special and a general election, and the seat recently gained by Sen. Arlen Specter's switch to the Democratic Party”.

Exactly and their opponents should pound on that fact in 2010 and in addition that without them Pelosi wouldn't be speaker

He needs to be examined to find out what pelousy bribed him with.

Now they will claim it was bipartisan.

Each time they do so, this ahole cao will be reminded of his treachery.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Now that this “bipartisan” bill passed, I’m sure before you sit down for a turkey dinner in a few weeks it will be signed into law.

Up next ... Cap and Tax.

Now the bill will be open for the world to read and these guys will have to go home and answer to their constituents. Let them explain how they seem not to have noticed the massive new taxes, the billions cut from Medicare, the death panels and why they never bothered to read the bill. If they thought the August town hall meetings were bad, they have yet to see the true wrath of the people.

I noticed that over at DU, some of the thinking DUmmies are aware that they're getting the shaft with this bill.

Oh well, you all asked for it with your votes, you want a bunch of control freaks who can barely run their own lives to control your life.....now you're gonna get it.

The reform We the People really need is tax reform...congress gets all its power, ability to socially engineer via the IRS and the joke of a tax code. As long as they have access to our money before we even see it then liberals can do whatever they want and will use purse strings to punish and implement their sick socialist agenda. The income tax was the dumbest thing the people of this country allowed....should have revolted then.
