California's best years have passed, voters say (but love Obama; would vote for Boxer again)

California's best years have passed, voters say

In a survey of 1,500 registered voters, 80% say the state is on the wrong track. Respondents express little confidence in state politicians and candidates, even as support for Obama remains high.

November 8, 2009

Frustrated at California's woes, voters are sharply pessimistic about whether the next governor will be able to move the state in the right direction, and most believe California is in the midst of a long-term decline, a new Los Angeles Times/USC poll shows.

Against that grim backdrop, next year's political contests loom as potentially volatile, but Democrats start out holding the upper hand, the poll found. President Obama retains his popularity in a state that gave him a landslide victory one year ago, with 60% approving of his tenure as president. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican struggling in the last year of his term, won the support of only a third of voters.

In the election to replace Schwarzenegger, Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown, the only major figure currently angling for the Democratic nomination, was seen favorably by more than 4 in 10 voters, and unfavorably by about one-quarter. His likely Republican opponents are much less known; none was seen favorably by more than 2 in 10 voters, the poll indicated.

Despite all problems, Berkeley/SanFran liberals are still in firm control over there. That doesn't surprise me. I can meet California conservatives only on Internet.:-)

Most depressing post of the day.

I live in California and know this first hand.

Thanks for reminding me of my misery.

It would be really depressing to see that people still vote for yet another batch of liberals to clean up the mess liberals created.

I left San Francisco when the stench of urine and feces on Market Street came to remind me of Mogadishu.

This is a Mexican public attitude and behavior of life in Mexico. They can not envision anything better and they keep voting for the same people who make sure it won’t get better. I tend to believe the assessment of the new Californian vision. It won’t get better; it will be poor, more corrupt and hopeless. The new immigrants live in America but they are still foreigners.

You have my sympathy. I just don’t understand Hollyweird. Why do they want to destroy the free market system that makes them rich? Why do they care so much for the environment but live in mansions and fly on private jets? Why do they want the government to rob the rich to give to the poor, yet do everything possible to hang onto their millions?

Because they’re liberals. It’s a hypocritical ideology that is more akin to a mental disorder. It makes zero logical sense.

As long as we continue to have California’s worst politicians in history in Sacramento, California’s best days will be behind her.

Swap out the Marxists in Sacramento, and watch how fast things turn around. Then California’s best days could still be ahead.

Alas, with the boneheads we have running the Republican party in the state, we’re -—ked.

The boneheads Andy Card tried so hard to nurture? I remember he was strong-arming Cali pubblies to make them ‘more electable.’

Nothing is going to change unless the entire governmental structure in California is overhauled.

And it's all Bush and Republican's fault whose insidious conspiracy stealthily wrecked California. It won't be complete without juicy conspiracy theory.:-)

Can't happen without violence. Total economic collapse followed by violent riots in big cities, criminal elements moving in (a la current Mexico) to fill the political vacuum, followed by defacto civil war. These are the prerequisites for government overhaul.

There is already a measure floating around that will call for a constitutional convention.
