Posted on 11/12/2009 12:44:11 PM PST by FrontPageMag.com
Some readers have asked if -- with the release of topless photos and now a solo sex tape -- conservatives, or Christians, or conservative Christians, should consider former Miss California Carrie Prejean a role model. The question strikes me as off-base, a hybrid of the cult of hero worship and the 24/7 media's information overload.
The underlying issue in the Prejean case is not -- or at least, it has never been for me -- one of the pageant (near-)winner’s character or admirability. It's a simple matter of the Left's aggressive politicization of every aspect of life, including beauty pageants and football.

I don't like being lied to.
If God gave her itty bitty skeeter bites, then that's good enough for me.
Carrie Prejean was thrust into the spotlight because she answered some twirp’s question about gay marriage in the same light that Barack Obama would have. But the mysogyny of the gay twirp who asked her suddenly overflowed.
Ms. Prejean may have taken some topless photos and I generally disapprove of girl’s touching themselves on camera and sending it to a boyfriend for all the right reasons and one of the reasons is that boyfriends sometime break up with you or sell you out.
If Carrie Prejean was spouting pro-abortion and pro-Obama nonsense then the focus would be on how “intolerant” this country is and how “disloyal” her boyfriend’s act of betrayal was. Since she’s a traditional conservative, the attack dogs are coming after her.
And Carrie Prejean is proof that sometimes good girls do naughty things. It doesn’t change the nature of who Carrie Prejean is trying to become and that is a follower of Christ.
Her eternal moment of truth may indeed have been when that degenerate asked her a loaded question and she was faced with the opportunity to take sides in Eternity. She choose Life and Christ and turned away from the emptiness of diseased celebrity.
If you can touch them, they’re real.
Hence, neither the OE/factory equipment or the aftermarket bolt-ons are real for either of us ;)
I agree with your take on it.
This doesn’t mean that we have to deny she did anything wrong. Christians are not supposed to claim perfection. They are try as best they can to live as close to it as they can, knowing full well they will have weak moments.
The left makes no bones about being happy as a lark to live as close to the model of Satan as they can. That’s better?
They never have to apologize, because they have adopted pure evil as the goal. And frankly, the live the goal more closely than I would think anyone would want to.
What better role model is there than a person that has seen her life mistakes, repented of them, changed her life around completely, and now walks with the Lord. I can’t think of any.
I recall reading that Prejean, as part of her entering the contest for Miss California or whatever it was, had to sign a form that stated she didn't have any nude pictures or sex tapes floating about. I do agree the reason that she was booted out of her position as Miss California was her stance on gay issues - but she has given her opponents all the ammo they need, and then some, by having made those pictures and that video.
If Mary Magdalene lived today, she might be doing sex tapes.
Give Carrie Magdalene a break!
This is just another example of how modern day laftist are really facist. The left is so obsessed with gay marriage that they crucify any public person who disagrees with them. There was an article in National Review lately suggesting that it might be agrued that Carrie Prejean may have saved our country from gay marriage. The polls after the ‘08 election were going in the pro-gay marriage direction and now after the Prejean incident that has changed. That may go a long way in explaining the vile hatred this decent woman has experienced.
I should know, because I carry around an enormous ego and gosh, my back is killing me!
But for reals: God gave you the body you have. In my mind when you augment your breasts you're telling God his handiwork is defective.
Very good point. The Left would heartily approve of MM, until she got saved.
Yeah, I can hardly stand to look at her. Again and again.
Nosterrex, you’ve got it dead on. The second half of the article speaks about this, including how her dress and line of work compares with Galatians 5.
I think there’s some room to state what you have here.
As for the video provided to her boyfriend, what do you say if asked about such a video and it hasn’t been made public yet? I would answer no. If it had, I think you’re right on target.
As for the photos, do they show full nudity or just upper body nudity? Are there photos below the waist? Where did those come from? Did they show up after the “question”, or before she applied?
It’s amazing to me the respect given to women who make agreements to have full open crotch shots of themselves taken an published for all the world to see, and the scorn placed on someone who did this for a loved one.
The same media players would would hug and kiss a Playboy Playmate on the cheek, are the ones trying to make Prejean into a tramp.
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve been impressed by the clean image some media woman presented, only to find a stack of stuff on them by accident. And of course, they’re glamed to the max, no downside whatsoever.
As others have said, if Prejean answered the question correctly, she could have murdered someone in her past and it would have been okay.
I didn't know that beauty pageants were 'really' considered to be role models for Christians to follow.
I thought they were more about appealing to the base sexual desires of man.
Young people make mistakes. It is how they learn sometimes. Judge them on how they move forward after the mistake. Carrie has moved forward in a positive way.
“I thought they were more about appealing to the base sexual desires of man.”
Any girl who takes video of herself abusing her sexual organs by masturbating certainly has no qualms about appealing to the base sexual desires of men.
Carrie is a damn hypocrite.
Oh, I don’t disagree about the rampant hypocrisy and double standards going on here. However, such has never bothered the left before, and won’t in the future. At the end of the day, she entered the Miss California pagent and said she didn’t have racy pics. She did. And she only has herself to blame for that. For comparison, I applied for admission to the Naval Academy and for Navy ROTC my senior year in High School (didn’t get into the former, did get the latter). And I could truthfully state that I had never done illegal drugs. If you are going into a program with restrictions, you need to be aware of such and adhere to such.
Carrie Prejean thrust her own self into the spotlight. She wasn’t asked a question because Obama decided to visit her non-descript neighborhood and went to the house next door (like Joe the Plumber). Prejean got asked the question by that bloated lump Puke@ss Shilton because she put herself in a Donald Trump pageant.
I heard her on Hannity the other night, and her interview, (which, lets face it, was a book promotion event), left me with real questions whether she wants to stand apart from the shallow, empty celebrity biz, or make big bucks off it.
I never thought of her as a role model.
I respected her for speaking up for what she believed in what she knew would be a hostile forum. And I sympathise with her for all the attacks that have come her way since then.
She’s not perfect? Not the point. Of course she’s not. But the people who hate her keep flinging mud, some true, some not true, to take the focus off of their own degeneracy.
I’m not going to waste time arguing about whether or not she is a “role model”. She’s a person who dared to violate the present day orthodoxy, and she did it despite the fact that she had sought the approval of that world, she sought success in that world and was willing to live by the rules of that world... but they demand absolute fealty and she wasn’t willing to give it.
So she becomes interesting, and they’ll keep finding ways to embarrass her, and at least some of us will dance to their tune.
You make a good point.
I do agree with your premise.
When she was called to make the statement, I don’t believe the video she provided to the boy friend had been made public. I don’t know exactly how long it had been in his posession, but I believe it was three years. If I were her, I would think the video had been watched and destroyed by then, it not having been made public before. If someone asked me, I’d say it wasn’t out there.
If the question was, are there any nude photos or video in public that will come back to haunt us, I believe she would have been honest in saying no. If she had modeled for an agency and those weren’t made public to her knowledge, I don’t think she would be wrong to deny they were in the public domain either.
The question at this point goes to someone trying to trip her up so hard, that they would go to a private source to make such a video or pictures public. If dollars were exchanged to change her answers to a lie, it would seem that would be actionable.
If that’s what they did, I would find it actionable.
If the video and pictures had remained private prior to her question, it would seem that someone tried awfully hard to defame her. If money changed hands in that effort, wouldn’t it seem like she would have recourse.
I would think those photos were taken under certain pretenses. If the original intent was breached, it would seem she could go after them.
That she hasn’t may be your best defense too.
She appeared on Larry King is Alive on CNN. Laura Ingraham played excerpts.
There were conditions for the interview. No discussion of this subject and no phone calls. Larry lied and violated both “agreements”.
What did Anne Frank ever accomplish?
...And then running for president. :)
David Letterman is pursing an extortion/blackmail criminal case against a man for attempting to sell him a script outlining his workplace affairs.
Carrie was blackmailed into submission in this case (agree to set the case aside and the video is not leaked, except it already is leaked since TMZ has it).
Yeah right, let’s compare this Jean to Anne Frank. Did Anne Frank have any choice about her diaries being published? You’re really reaching with this one.
She never wrote them for publication in the first place. Her father made the decision to publish them as a testament.
But you made the claim that those under 20 who’ve barely accomplished anything don’t have anything to say.
Each person goes through his or her own travels.
I am not drawing parallels to the gravity of the persecution.
Just pointing out that absolute statements are often erroneous.
Well you obviously think there is merit in Carrie & Levi writing their books. God knows why, enjoy!
Speaking only for myself, I could care less if Prejean sent a erotic video of herself to her boyfriend. In hindsight, it wasn’t the smartest move she ever made. But neither is it a crime. And, if her explanation is to be taken as truth, I honestly don’t see what the big deal is. It was a private matter between her and the guy she was seeing at the time. I might find it raunchy, but it wasn’t meant for me, so it’s none of my business. Lots of people in relationships do things with their partner that they probably wouldn’t want to become public knowledge. It doesn’t make them bad people.
I agree that she’s not a conservative leader; I never saw her as one. I admired her for speaking her mind at the pageant and reviled the smear campaign against her in its wake. End of story.
You’re telling God his handiwork is defective.
* * * * * * * *
You could say that about unattractive women, especially all the Helen Thomas photos that crop up around here. That’s her god-given face.
Christians are always looking for the “perfect, pure (virginal) nice girl.”
Hell, I would think sinners would just as good role models. That’s what Christianity is about, forgiving and embracing fallen people, right? Do they want sinners in the church or not?
The wonders of cable TV.
HBO,SHOWTIME, CINEMAX, and MTV.
The role models for a generation.
However, all those indicate is an improvement of technology, and not a limit on the depths of depravity of 'man'. As noted in the Bible.
Well, let's get to the bottom of the issue.
Why do women wear lipstick (in particular, the color red)?
Why do women wear high heeled shoes?
Why do women even participate in 'beauty contests'? Why must they appear almost nude (in bikinis) as part of the event?
Not every book has merit or is factual. Just look at Prezzy Obama’s two books. Which won him grammys.
Do you think that the hounding that Carrie Prejean is warranted and validated because she took a personal stand against same sex marriage?
Because we KNOW that is what is driving this witchhunt.
My point is she is going out of her way to keep this witchhunt going by her own actions. Doesn’t that strike you as a bit odd? She is also getting caught up in her own continual lying. (Have you heard how many different stories have come out about her sex tapes just in the last two days?)If the woman is what she professes to be she would
get off the tube for a while and get on with her career.
My original point. That is why I couldn’t understand what a 22 year old beauty pageant contestant would have to say to justify a serious book.
A sex tape would require “tape”. There is no tape. A file perhaps but no tape. Legalism, yes. But facts are facts.
I think she was doing fine, at first, and then it became too much all about her rather than conservative principles. She is young, but she could have used some better advisors to steer her clear of becoming a punching bag. Debbie Schlussel’s article on her was merciless. I wish her good luck, nonetheless.
Digital phone camera make you happy..........?
I think we have discussed this enough.......
