In these past few weeks alone, a clueless Colorado state Sen. Dave Schultheis tweeted, "Don't for a second, think Obama wants what is best for U.S. He is flying the U.S. Plane right into the ground at full speed. Let's Roll."

Is there a problem with this statement?

I have to admit that I don’t get Twitter at all. What’s the point? Why would anyone want to know when someone else is watching TV, petting their cat or clipping their toenails? Are we that bored with our lives?

Never been on Twitter. No Facebook account. No Myspace, either. I feel deprived. Is this less than 140 characters?

Well, that makes her perfect for 'twit'ter, doesn't it? Personally, I signed up last Spring. I visited a few times, and haven't been back since. I agree, it's absolutely worthless, mostly populated by people who mistakenly believe they have something to say, yet can't even state their swill coherently.

Facebook is the same, IMO. I signed up there also and haven't been to it in months. The only redeeming value it provides is a way to keep in touch with friends and relatives, yet many use it for mundane, trivial chat. No one knows how to communicate any more.

My twitter is strictly political. Well, and sports.

I have yet to understand why anyone would use twitter. I’m not saying I like it or not. I just don’t know why there would be a market for it in a world of Myspace and Facebook.

Twitter?

The only reason that I signed up for a Twitter account was to be able to get news about the Iranian election and aftermath. Found it very useful for that.

Then came along the Honduran elections, and again it seemed to do a better job of connecting with citizens, not government propaganda. (propaganda is there too)

It is as stated impossible to convey much of substance in 150 characters, but it does a good job of links and headlines.

Oddly I am locked out of my Twitter account as of yesterday, for too many failed logins. (I installed and tried a Python twitter client yesterday, and it probably is the cause)

So my point:

(1) Twitter’s key usefulness is portability. A lot of the content is from cell phones.

(2) There are a lot of Conservatives who inhabit twitter and I think this is positive, and most are not that young.

(3) Is is a fad like CB radio, Possibly. (CB radio was that vehicle which morphed the speech of a banker to that of a truck driver)

I do not own a cell phone but still find Twitter useful. And I will be 62 next month, not kid.

So is Meghan McCain.

While I don’t care much about Megan McCain’s cleavage, Demi and Aston’s new Prius, or what some random tweeter is having for dinner, I do think Twitter is great for first hand accounts of events like the Iranian elections or the Tea Parties.

I’m on Twitter as jimwass. But I haven’t signed on in weeks. If you are worshipping someone and want to read his every thought in real time then Twitter may be for you. If you are trying to report news as it happens from your phone then Twitter is for you. (PG County GOP chairman was reporting the progress of the RNC election last January - cool updates) If you are trying to receive news from such a source in real time then Twitter is for you. Otherwise if you are following a number of talkative people broadcasting philosophy and random thoughts Twitter is s dizzying waste of time.
