Is Palin's book tour merely an opening chapter?
The Washington Post ^ | November 15, 2009 | Dan Balz

Posted on 11/14/2009 5:43:53 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Sarah Palin is embarking on what is likely to be the most commercially successful book tour by a politician since Barack Obama launched "The Audacity of Hope" three years ago. Obama's book tour spawned a presidential campaign. Will Palin's do the same?

Her ultimate ambitions remain a mystery. The opening stage of the tour for her book "Going Rogue" has been marked by the same qualities that have defined the public reaction to her since that morning in Ohio when she was announced as John McCain's choice for vice president: curiosity and controversy.

Give Palin credit: She has a gift for attracting attention. Sen. Lamar Alexander (Tenn.), who twice unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination, said of her recently that she has "the quality that every politician wants to have: She's interesting. Most politicians would swap about anything for that quality."

But with the attention comes the controversy. The first reports about the book, thanks to the Associated Press, have reignited her wars with McCain's campaign team, this time over her assertion that the campaign had billed her $50,000 for the cost of her vice presidential vetting. Not so, McCain advisers said. That probably won't be the last such clash as the book tour continues, although the advisers actually seem reluctant to be drawn too far into replaying old arguments.

Palin will travel from one book signing to another aboard a bus that will make the tour appear very much like an extension of her campaign for vice president, or the beginning of a new campaign. She will be riding what one Republican calls a backlash among many conservatives against the treatment she has received from the media and much of the political establishment.(continued)

Close your eyes and try to imagine them writing an article like this about a Democrat.

For starters, Palin is going to sell a lot more books. And unlike Obama, she will be a two-termer.

She is a smart, conservative woman who knows that she has star power, and she is developing the skill to talk above the State Run Media. This is key.

There is a reason why they don't want to be "drawn in." She doesn't say what she can't back up.

Not so, McCain advisers said.

And he spoke on condition he remained anonymous.

Do you think he really exists, hidden accuser?

Consider the Source: AP = Always Propaganda

This just came down the wire at Politico.com

HarperCollins has gone back to press on “Going Rogue,” so the number of shipped books will be well over 1.5. Prepaid orders on Amazon alone are over 80,000.

Sarah’s book is already sold out and it hasn’t even been released yet. This book is gonna be AMAZING. I am counting the days til I get my copy

Just imagine how her announcement to run (if she does) would blow away all other news coverage. Now THAT would be fun to plan, the where, when and how. If she runs I bet she’ll do things very differently than anyone we’ve seen.

Sarah scares the comPost silly.

If she didn't, they wouldn't be saying word one about her.

Me, too...I ordered my copy through Borders, which discounted the price down to $15 and some change. So it was a double bonus for me: Getting Sarah’s book at more than 40% off, and using my Borders Bucks to take off another $5.

Wow...

That's still okay. As long as the money is going into Sarah's coffers. She's worth it.

Rush remarked the other day that the book (which he’d read under a confidentiality agreement) has a lot of “policy” info, and that he was impressed with Palin’s grasp of policy.

Building on that, I’d love to see her write a 2nd book, she’d got time and the skids are greased. This would be a more substantive work, having dealt with the campaign and McCains smarmy campaign weasels. The model should be Barry Goldwaters “Conscience of a Conservative” and would be ideal for demonstrating her grasp of issues and policy an building “gravitas”. Plus, since it would be her own exposition, there could be no “fact checking” so AP would be able to use their 11 reporters to cover actual real news stories!

The second book would be essentially the Palin Platform for 2012.

I should have gone through borders. If I had known about that 25 percent off coupon I could have gone to the store and picked up the book on release. Unfortunately I did not know about it and ordered the book through amazon.com. I did the 3.99 shipping since the 2nd business day shipping is 11.99 which is ridiculous. So it says on my account
delivery estimate: November 20, 2009 - November 24, 2009
I dont know if I should cancel the order and try to buy the book at the store or just wait.
