A giant combination of sales and property taxes -almost a billion dollars - is going down in flames tonight in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. Our friends at the Baton Rouge Tea Party led the charge to defeat this boondoggle.
Congratulations are due.

Great news...;0)
In good times the Rats want to raise taxes and spend more money.
In bad times the Rats want to raise taxes and spend more money.
Anyone see a pattern here?
TANKS,Abb...
I had an inkling of victory this morning when I read this pi$$y editorial in the Baton Rouge paper this morning. They had endorsed the tax last week and have been beating the drum for it.

Our Views: Beyond line of good taste
* Published: Nov 14, 2009
A protester in a small group of tea party activists held up a sign for reporters at the State Capitol last week.
It rendered the name of the president of the United States as Hussein Obama. Instead of s, there was the swastika. Instead of o, there was the hammer and sickle of the old Soviet Union.
That one sign is a measure of how debased has become the political culture of this country.
To appropriate the hated symbols of monumental tyrannies to political debate in this country is, to use the word of one of the key leaders of Republicans in Congress, deplorable.
U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., is the No. 2 leader of House Republicans. Speaking to reporters in New Orleans, he noted that in a free country there are bound to be some people who go beyond the boundaries of reasonableness and good taste.
However, he said the use of Holocaust imagery in American political debate is inappropriate.
I think its deplorable, Cantor said flatly.
He is correct, and not just on grounds of taste.
There is also the problem of proportionality. These are not incidents that lend themselves to parallels with todays heated debates in the United States.
The murder of millions in the gas chambers of Nazi Germany and, earlier, the starvation of millions in the famines caused by the Soviet regime in what is now Russia and Ukraine, were crimes of dimensions that beggar description.
Disagree with the president all you want, even insult the man and his office; its a free country. But those who do so in the fashion of the tea party protester undermine their own cause.
Really, Hummmmm. I guess we will see won't we.
“Really, Hummmmm. I guess we will see won’t we”
Funny, those kinds of behaviors didn’t seem to be a problem to the media during our last administration.

This was yet another money grab as I see it,,,
Dem pet projects...
I bet dollars to donuts that editorial was written by Lanny Keller. He used to write for the old Shreveport Journal years ago. A screeching liberal Republican.
I think this will end it. Look at the money thing here.

East Baton Rouge Parish bond proposal fails
Posted: Nov 14, 2009 5:45 PM CST Updated: Nov 14, 2009 10:47 PM CST
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - With 100% of the precincts reporting in East Baton Rouge Parish, the $901 million bond proposal by Mayor-President Kip Holden has failed.
The complete unofficial returns showed only 36 percent of voters favored the tax, while 64 percent were against.
Dwight Hudson, president of the Baton Rouge Tea Party, expressed satisfaction in the results. The group said it is not in favor of any more taxes and government should not be running a business, referring to the “Alive” project. Other Baton Rouge Tea Party members also commented on the plan.
“I think it’s a terrible time to try to raise taxes,” said Woody Jenkins. “We really have a great protest against high taxes and more debt. People really don’t want to see more taxes and this particular plan was poorly conceived.”
“The majority of this, I think it’s something we need to do, but with ‘Alive,’ I couldn’t vote for ‘Alive,’” said Clifford Grout.
The Office of the Louisiana Secretary of State reports voter turnout in East Baton Rouge Parish was 26.3 percent for this election.
Here was the headline I used at my blog.

64% no, 36% yes.

Wow,,,Maybe they won’t try that again soon,,,
Last year was 90,464 voting against the proposal and 87,393 voting for it.
Time to flush Kip Holden out of the Mayor’s office. Too bad Woody Jenkins couldn’t replace him.
Glad it failed. Shame on Mayor Holden for tacking this theme-park/dress up the downtown area mess onto our much-needed infrastructure improvements!! As one writer pointed out, had he done so that portion would have passed and we could at least begin to get some of the mess we have addressed!! Think he’ll listen now....finally?????
