BOCA RATON Confused Palm Beach County voters helped thwart Al Gore's 2000 bid to become president of the United States, but he was introduced as "president of the planet" when he returned here Saturday night to deliver an environmental lecture.
The former vice president spoke on climate change at the Mizner Park Amphitheater to a crowd of about 800. More than 200 protesters gathered across the street from the event, and their boos and chants could be heard inside the amphitheater as Gore began his presentation.
Gore lost Florida, and the White House, by 537 votes to George W. Bush in a 2000 as many Palm Beach County Democrats said they mistakenly voted for conservative Pat Buchanan because they were confused by the county's "butterfly ballot" design.
After losing the presidential race, Gore became arguably the world's most famous advocate for curbing carbon emissions, gaining eco-celebrity status with the film An Inconvenient Truth and winning a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

What an @ss. :)
Is that Al Gore lighting his flatulence?
Very well done, Florida protestors!!!
I had the privilege of protesting Algore back in 2000. We drowned out his little fund raising party that was being held outside at a rich Dem’s home.
He immediately sent over some “friendly” reporters who demanded to know our names.
Gore was recently on cspan spouting his baloney - and once again his ugliness is simply breathtaking, along with his ability to lie with such passion.
But, then again, follow the money.
Their final tally was that Bush did win with over 500
votes. That wasn't publicized like the mantra of the
dems that Bush was selected by the Supreme Court.
What puzzles me is the dem and their pals in the media
have this unparalled ability to demonize whomever they
wish and it sticks for all eternity. Consider three who
come to mind. Hoover, Nixon, Bush. From the dems
those three are the US equivalent of the big 3: Hitler
Stalin & Mao. Shakespeare had it right: "the evil that
men do lives after them; the good is oft interred in
their bones".
That is not what happened at all. It was an outright attempt to steal the election from George Bush. These idiots were willing to allow themselves to be made to look like the idiots they really are.
At the time of this happening, Freeper, Robert E. Cook made a detailed analysis of the votes that were manufactured for Gore and the votes that were destroyed for Bush.
It's a case of when a lie is repeated often enough, people accept it as the truth.
I believe Robert E. Cook.
The pieces of the puzzle fit as well as the time line. Hopefully the analysis is still available in archives.
“Click here for story.” ?? Is this a new format?
Didn’t we get about 20,000 people at the Bachmann rally?
“Hilarious. The protestors were the equivalent of 1/4 of the crowd.”
And twice their aggregate IQ.
The liberal a-holes and media a-holes always put that number 537 out there, still trying to delegitimize Bush’s election. Of course none of those a-holes would have had the slightest problem had Gore come out on top by 1 vote.
And even when it became clear that Bush had a substantial lead in the nationwide popular vote, they were still trying to figure out how Kerry could win with a narrow win in Ohio or a handful of smaller states such as Iowa/Nevada/New Mexico.
My wife and I were working a poll location here and didn't even get out until after midnight. Later, they told us that SW Pennsylvania kept the contest so competitive that the RATs had to tie up people and resources here which would otherwise had gone to Ohio.
