Sen. Robert Byrd to capture longevity record
Politico ^ | November 17, 2009 | Jonathan Allen

When the clock strikes midnight tonight, Sen. Robert Byrd will become the longest-serving member of Congress ever — a capstone on a remarkable career in which the adopted son of a coal miner propelled himself from poverty to the pinnacle of legislative power, where he could, did and still does send billions of federal dollars back across the Blue Ridge to help build his home state of West Virginia.

Byrd’s stat sheet speaks for itself:

• Served 20,774 days — or 56 years and 10½ months — in Congress

• Attended 18,582 Senate roll call votes

• Elected to Senate nine times

• Served under 11 presidents

• Held five jobs in Democratic leadership

• At age 91, sits third in line to the presidency

I understand that the State located geographically immediately west of Virginia, and immediately south of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Ohio is to be renamed “The Great State of Byrd”.

“The voters of W VA must be dumber than stones.”

WVA jokes aside, they just don't want their sugar daddy to go away. He brings in tons of money to build highways to nowhere and other projects. When he's gone, the money will go too.

That would explain the lack of brains on the rodent side. He’s been eating them in the cloakroom.

“where he could, did and still does send billions of federal dollars”

That’s all I need to know.

"I know this is off the subject...but how long was (Democrat) Byrd in the Ku Klux Klan? (just wondering) "

I often wonder that too- when you see pictures of him in his 'Grand Kleagle' garb he has grey hair- he must have been in his 60's!!

So if he 'repudiated' his involvement, it must have been just before he was elected

And he was not JUST a member.. he was THE LEADER of the KKK

The Republican Party was founded as the Anti-Slavery Party to defeat the Pro-Slavery Democrat Party.

The Democrat Party--the Party of Jim Crow and the Ku Klux Klan--is still the party of sociopaths, hypocrites, sleaze, and corruption. It has not changed at all.

Oops! Correction! It is now also the Party of Decadence.
