Sen. Robert Byrd to capture longevity record
Politico ^ | November 17, 2009 | Jonathan Allen

Posted on 11/17/2009 4:30:10 AM PST by rightwingintelligentsia

When the clock strikes midnight tonight, Sen. Robert Byrd will become the longest-serving member of Congress ever — a capstone on a remarkable career in which the adopted son of a coal miner propelled himself from poverty to the pinnacle of legislative power, where he could, did and still does send billions of federal dollars back across the Blue Ridge to help build his home state of West Virginia.

Byrd’s stat sheet speaks for itself:

• Served 20,774 days — or 56 years and 10½ months — in Congress

• Attended 18,582 Senate roll call votes

• Elected to Senate nine times

• Served under 11 presidents

• Held five jobs in Democratic leadership

• At age 91, sits third in line to the presidency

Seems that someone who cites the Constitution as often as he does would know that the Founders intended that those elected would serve a short time and move on with their lives.

Whenever I hear a Democrat hint at racism in any situation, I have to laugh and say Senator Robert Byrd, former KKK member. BTW, Has anyone ever heard Jesse Jackson or someone like him call for the Senator’s resignation?

So he should get the "Sen. Robert E Byrd" longevity award presented to him in the "Sen. Robert E Byrd" award room, in the "Sen. Robert E Byrd" municipal building on "Sen. Robert E Byrd" highway from the "Sen. Robert E Byrd" professional govt award troops.

Is there anything left that he has NOT named after himself in that state? (Drive though some time and you'll see)

Didn’t his “stat sheet” have two eye-holes cut in it?

“He’s still bringing home the bacon,” said former Rep. Ken Hechler, a fellow West Virginia Democrat who served in the House from 1959 through 1977. “I would say he’s West Virginia’s No. 1 economic development officer.”

It is a sad day when this man is celebrated for his leeching efforts while his affiliation with the KKK goes unmentioned!!!!

He’s so old, I heard that Byrd has to wear rubber white sheets.

He’s a massive, huge, disgusting embarrassment for anyone who loves the Constitution.

He hasn’t “served” in years. His staff have been running the show, propping the old coot up, telling him what vote button to push since the Clinton years. He hasn’t been “all there” for many, many years.......

Having been a leader in the KKK hasn’t hurt Byrd. The voters of W VA must be dumber than stones.

56 years too long at a bare minimum. Chiseling, thief, klansman. Somehow this scum disgraces congress.

You know they have flipped Byrd, when politico writes an approving piece.

Actually I don’t thing it’s Byrd acting on his own behest. Someone in his place is.

It’s a shame that in the USA, a man with his talents couldn’t find honest work.
