Rand Paul, the son of Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), has surprised a lot of people by surging in polls and fundraising to quasi-frontrunner status in next years U.S. Senate race in Kentucky. But Chris Cillizza reports that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is weighing in against Paul and hosting a fundraiser for Trey Grayson, the young secretary of state, whose establishment candidate credentials have been a little banged up by Pauls campaign.
And Grayson has the gall to claim he's not the insider candidate and that out-of-state money is bad?
Sheesh!
Anyone know anything about Trey, other than the fact his name makes him sound like a poofer?
Out with the RINOS!
Mitchie the Kid is supporting this guy? You can BET he’s a limp-wristed RINO and a PERFECT fit for the republican hierarchy. Mitchie also supported Specter and has said damned little about Hussein criminal attempts to create a Marxist dictatorship. Yep. Mitchie and John Wayne are confused for each other ALL the time.
1) What's Paul's stance on the situation on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan? Does he think we should "bring the troops home" right now?
2) What's Paul's stance on closing down Gitmo and bringing terrorists to U.S. soil for civilian trials? Does he agree with Obama on this?
3) How would Rand Paul vote on federal legislation to restrict abortion? His website is very vague about this, only saying that he believes abortion is wrong and would cut off all federal funding for it. But how would he vote, for example, on a law that would ban third trimester abortion nationwide? How would he vote on legislation that would establish parental consent for abortion nationwide? Or does he agree with some libertarians who want to punt this issue "back to the states" and have no problem with a state like Massachusetts using their power of "local control" to promote abortion on demand and use their state as an abortion dumping ground for people coming from more restrictive states?
4) Would Rand Paul oppose legislation to force gay marriage to be recognized nationwide? Would he oppose federal legislation to promote special rights for gays?
5) What is Rand Paul's stance on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research?
6) What's Paul's stance on the so-called "war on drugs"? Does he agree with some libertarians who feel all illegal drugs should be legalized, even crack and heroin?
7) Would Rand Paul support legislation nationally to erect a fence or barrier along the Mexican border?
8) What is Rand Paul's stance on the Patriot Act? Would he vote to completely repeal it?
Thanks in advance.
Yes, Trey has won office statewide twice, a difficult feat for Republicans in KY. Paul isn’t likely to beat the Dem nominee, who also will have won statewide office. He will be tied to his moonbat father. We can’t afford to throw away Senate seats. If Grayson turns out to be another Graham, we bounce him out after a term.
PING
Still no response from any Paul supporters on my #7. If Rand Paul is the best conservative in this race where is the evidence? I want to know how he'd vote on social issues and WOT related items.
Rand Paul’s fundraising is going quite well. Plus he polls just as well as Grayson. So you can’t say that Rand Paul is a 2nd tier candidate. If Grayson gets elected to the Senate, he’ll vote how McConnell tells him to. OTOH, if Paul does the nomination, I don’t know if McConnell will want to work with a maverick like Rand Paul. On balance, I think Paul would be the better candidate. Having Paul win the nomination could send a big message to Mitch McConnell that he no longer calls the shots.
I can’t support his candidacy. I think he’s a fiasco waiting to happen in the general election. What qualifications does he have to serve ? If he didn’t have his father’s fundraising network behind him, he couldn’t break out of the single digits. He personally has zero political experience or seasoning (for some, that’s a good thing, but for a high-end position, that’s worrisome. If he was starting off in the House, it would be a different story. Hell, even Zero had prior legislative experience before going to the U.S. Senate).
At least with Grayson, we know what we’re getting (and we know he can win, he’s done it twice before). Rand could be like Dr. Coburn, or he could be another paleo-loon like his father. I’m not going to take that risk, and when all is said and done, even in what will be a good GOP year, I think the Dems are going to raise enough doubts if he gets the nomination to call into question just what he intends to do in the Senate. Would I like to stick it to McConnell after his subpar leadership ? Sure, but not at the expense of pissing away a winnable seat.
