Former 2008 Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCains daughter, Meghan McCain, talked to students about fitting into the political spectrum and the evolution of politics.
She spoke at 7 p.m. Monday in Pruis Hall. Building Better Communities, College Republicans, The Excellence in Leadership Program, Spectrum and The Office of Student Life sponsored her speech.
McCain said Americans differences are what make the country great. She said politics can bring out the best, as well as the worst, in people.
Politics dont have to be dirty, she said.
McCain addressed how she used to be registered as an Independent, voted for 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry and has been targeted over the years.
People would say Shes a McCain, she must be [a Republican], she said.
McCain said now she is often targeted by fellow members of her political party because she considers herself a progressive Republican. She said she came up with the term herself and knows shes not the only one out there.
McCain said people have questioned whether she was Republican enough because some people dont like how she doesnt have all the same ideals that traditional Republicans support.
There are people who love the Republican party, but ideals are falling, she said.

And she's lecturing the GOP on how to win? BWAHAHAHA!
I CAN HAS SPANKING?
Can somebody please give her a Momma Cass endorsed ham sandwich?
Her father probably voted for Kerry also.
can you feed pork to a pig?
Note to Meghan - if you want to get into politics make stump speeches not dumb-as-a-stump speeches.
She voted for Kerry? That confirms she is an idiot.
Following in her daddies footsteps.
Meghan and her clueless father are exactly what the Left would like the GOP to be.
If this is the future of the GOP, count me out.
Actually, I’m already out because Bush rejected capitalism and the GOP nominated her dad, but that’s another story.
This is s RINO masquerading as a pig or is it the other way around?
Only a whacked out numb taco would have voted for John Kerry for president.
I guess Miss Meaghan qualifies.
Talk about jumping on board a sinking ship.
“Hi, my name is Meghan, and I’m a RINO....oh yeah, and I’m a foodaholic”
Ya beat me to it!
I wonder how many hours of intense thought went into coming up with that term?
Meghan, "progressives" are commies and have no place in a conservative (or allegedly conservative) party. Go join the Democrat Party and get it over with.
Why anyone listens to her is beyond me... A know nothing, do nothing, accomplished nothing, talentless hack...
Actually, Im already out....
Then your opinion on this issue doesn't really count for much, does it?
...and this pitiful comment...voting for Kerry
should conclude the 15 minutes of fame.
No credibility now, Megan.
The only 2 things that separate her from the other know nothing Hollywood skanks like Hilton and Kardashian are an extra 200# and her zip code.
That implies that she one had some.
one = once
Another family of idiots.
I wish my fellow Freepers would avoid the fat jokes. I actually think she is cute although her mind is a terrible thing to waste.
She is the poster child of what’s wrong today.
So she’s fat AND stupid.
Another trust fund baby, lecturing those who work how to get things done.
Ms. McCain, if you want to impress me with your superior insights, move out of rich mommy’s house, let loose daddy’s title and do something on your own.
“Voted for John Kerry in 2004...”
Like father, like daughter.
Personally I am not exactly "thin" but I don't get bent out of shape if people joke about it. Besides, what will be the next "don't" hmm?...
Considering what Meghan is trying to do to the Republican party, a light joke about her weight is hardly a major offense, is it?
She looks like she just got out of bed and didn’t have time to fix her hair.
She’s an Independent who acts like a R.I.N.O. and is about as clueless about Constitutional Conservatism as her father.
