DRIGGS, Idaho (AP) An 11-year-old boy shot a black bear on his family's front porch after he said it wouldn't leave.
The boy was at his home near Driggs, just west of the Idaho-Wyoming border, with his younger sisters last Wednesday when the bear showed up.
The youngster says he couldn't shoo it away, so he went and got his gun and shot it.
Black bears in the area have prompted multiple complaint calls, largely because they've been hanging around a transfer station.
It wasn't clear if the bear shot by the boy was also attracted by the transfer station.
Idaho Department of Fish and Game Officer Lauren Wendt says, "we got multiple complaint calls. We don't like to see them down this low. But it's not uncommon.''"
Fish and Game doesn't plan on pursuing any claims against the boy or his family and they issued them a permit to keep the bear.

Daniel Boone killed him a bear when he was only three!
Lucky kid to have that kind of firepower available. When I was 11, all I had access to was BB guns and a little varmint gun.
Horrible. Where was this boy’s parents? An 11 year old watching after his younger sisters and had access to a gun? Someone should call Social Services.

Poor bear. He just came over to play.
Finally a Real American kid.
A real American is self-reliant and confident; traits that this young man has demonstrated.
Sad that this even had to be printed.
No, it was his neighborhood pal Davey Crockett, the king of the wild frontier...... :)

Davey Crockett
re: Daniel Boone killed him a bear when he was only three!
Wow, I’ve thought for over 50 years the line in the song was, “Killed in a bar when he was only three!”
Makes sense now. Thanks!
Hopefully, he doesn't go to a spork-free school and won't get an authoritarian lecture from the principal.
I know how you feel...I always thought the line, ‘a girl with kalidoscope eyes’ in Lucy in the sky with diamonds was ‘a girl with colitis goes by’.
I snarfed coffee when I read your mis-heard lyrics.
Thanks for the morning smile :)
Davey, Davey caught it, and gave it to the whole frontier...
Totally my bad. It surely was Davey Crockett that killed the bear when he was three. The same Davey Crockett that went to the Alamo (as portrayed by John Wayne).
