Serve, Don’t Dictate: Long-Time Conservative D.C. Insiders Need To Go
PAjamas Media ^ | November 18 | Adam Graham

In a men’s room in Minneapolis, former Senator Larry Craig indignantly asked an undercover police officer: “Do you know who I am?” The cop didn’t know who Craig was, and many beltway bigshots should learn a lesson from that: time to lose the ego and take a hard look at how little you matter to the American voter.

I thought of Craig when reading how Grover Norquist has issued orders to potential Republican presidential candidates. Mike Huckabee is supposed to make sure that Republicans defeat Senator Blanche Lincoln or Arkansas, and Rudy Giuliani needs to run for governor of New York or pick someone else to do it....

I always find it amusing when a columnist or wonk of some sort engages in the same activity they condemn in others in an article.

I found Norquists reasoning quite sound (work to win in ‘10 before setting your sights on the WH) but this article shrill and misguided.

Here's an interesting snippet from near the end of the article:

"Former President George W. Bush reportedly believed he defeated the conservative movement when he defeated American Values president and 1999 CPAC straw poll winner Gary Bauer in the 2000 presidential race. However, the conservative movement is far stronger than its D.C. leadership. Forty percent of Americans describe themselves as conservatives, but to the average American that the beltway elite are supposed to be leading, they'd be as unknown as Larry Craig to the undercover Minnesota police officer.

"Part of the problem is that many of these people have been in Washington far too long. While the ACU praises its history of supporting term limits, Mr. Keene has been at the helm of the ACU for 25 years. Mr. Norquist has been at Americans for Tax Reform for 24 years. Many of the same problems with career congressmen apply to career Washington insiders, like losing touch with the people you’re supposed to represent and becoming part of D.C. culture. (See Norquist's K-Street Project or Keene's recent angry confrontation with filmmaker John Ziegler.)

While individuals may make themselves beltway institutions, they become less effective for the conservative cause because their rhetoric and tactics become tired and predictable....

Good Morning, AuntB!

I was doing a title search on the word "insiders" when I came across this article mentioning GN.

I am just appalled to learn that he's obviously considered to be a strategist who can issue ORDERS.

WOW

Do only Rinos take ORDERS from Grover Norquist, or ... does he have the "goods" on lots of people, and thus can order LOTS of others around, too?

Thanks.

“I found Norquists reasoning quite sound .......... but this article shrill and misguided.”

That’s understandable since Grover is one of the biggest open border/amnesty promoters around. One of these days Grover is going to be in jail for the damage he’s caused this country and ‘conservatism’.

“It is with a heavy heart therefore, that I am posting this article, which is the most complete documentation extant of Grover Norquist’s activities in behalf of the Islamist Fifth Column. I have confronted Grover about these issues and have talked to others who have done likewise. But it has been left to Frank Gaffney and a few others, including Daniel Pipes and Steven Emerson, to make the case and to suffer the inevitable recriminations that have followed earlier disclosures of some aspects of this story.”

Good question. Grover’s ‘tax pledge’ hooks a lot of them. Arnold S. in California for one. Grover has influence over too many state governments as well. Many decent republicans have also signed on to it. On the face, it sounds good...no new taxes, lower spending, etc. But there is always more to any ‘agreement’ with Grover. He’s responsible for getting a lot of rinos elected in various state governments as well as the fed.

Is there a way to find out if he is either a business contact or a social friend or otherwise close associate of either Willard Mitt Mittens Romney and/or his decades long BFF gal pal Meg Whitman?

For instance, did Grover Norquist attend Harvard Business School where the other two got their MBAs? Or... was he involved with Goldman Sachs which did the Ebay IPO in which Meg made billions overnight and where she sits on the board?

Does GN have any connection to the Clintons?

Not directly that I’ve seen. But Grover falls which ever way the bread is buttered on.

Or the Illuminatti? Or the Trilateral Commission?

What is the illuminati?

It was my impression that everybody in Washington, D.C. belongs to the Trilateral Commission, but I'm unfamiliar with the "illuminati" -- are you, perchance a Conspiratorial Theorist?
