What a joke, it's not conservatives that are always working toward big government totalitarianism, it's the liberals.

Unfortunately, that's the way the word "conservative" works.

If it means "true to founding principles" then in the USA a Conservative respects, among other things, the Bill of Rights.

In China, a "conservative" believes people are cattle that need herding and that they only have the "right" to obey.

Unfortunately, the word "conservative" applies to each one in the context of their history and society.

Which is why I think we need a better word.

To the Chinese, the word “conservative” probably has a different meaning than to us Americans. For example, in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, “conservative” was used to refer to the old guard Communists.
