U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder continued the federal government's campaign to reach out to local Arab Americans, saying last night in Detroit that civil rights must be respected even as the country deals with security threats.
"For the last nine months, I've heard from Muslim and Arab Americans who feel uneasy about their relationship with their government, who feel isolated and discriminated against by law enforcement," Holder said, according to the Detroit Free Press. "It is inconsistent with what America is all about."
Holder spoke at the Detroit Marriott as part of the Advocates and Leaders for Police and Community Trust awards banquet less than a month after FBI agents shot Detroit Imam Luqman Abdullah during a raid at a Dearborn warehouse.
Followers have questioned the FBI's use of force against Abdullah, and local civil rights groups have called for further investigation.
"The dialogue between law enforcement and those in the Muslim and Arab-American communities has been tested in recent weeks by events here in Michigan and events far away," Holder said, also referencing the massacre at Fort Hood in Texas.
Holder's visit is the latest in a string of attempts by the federal government to reach out to Arab Americans in Metro Detroit. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and CIA Director Leon Panetta both visited Dearborn community leaders in recent months.
The symbolism of Holder's visit wasn't lost on Imad Hamad, the Midwest regional director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.
"He is setting the tone for the nation and all law enforcement, and that is very important," Hamad told the Detroit News. "He managed to define the line between the new administration and the Bush administration."
Hey Holder you unbelievable putz! I feel uneasy and discriminated against every time I'm around any obviously devout Muslim. I never know when one of them will succumb to "Sudden Jihadi Syndrome" and start slaughtering the infidels. Would you just please take two reality pills and call us when you start feeling better.
From your lips to God's ears, Welly P.

Political correctness and the affirmative actions twins!
Obama and Holder open the gates and order us not to look inside the horse.
Try being a white Christian male business owner...
Now, there's a coincidence.
Losing diversity would be a greater tragedy.... blah blah blah.
It's time to retire, and let a real American serve his country.

I lived in Dearborn for four years, until 2007. I hated it. As a white female, I was treated as a dirty human. I rarely went out, unless I had my husband or son with me. You just can’t imagine what it was like, and in my own country.
Surprised the State Controlled Media hasnt hunted you down to do a story on your “racist” move and how white flight has hurt Dearborn’s “diversity”
I hope that was said in a sarcastic manner. Is it racist if I refuse to go into west Louisville, because I am afraid? Those are the facts.
Yes, very sarcastic. That’s why I put key words in quotes.
