Charlie Baker selects Sen. Richard Tisei as running mate

Republican gubernatorial hopeful Charlie Baker has picked state Sen. Richard R. Tisei as his running mate, according to his campaign Web site and Facebook page.

An announcement is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at the American Civic Center in Tisei’s hometown of Wakefield, State House News is reporting.

Baker’s campaign manager could not be immediately reached for comment.

“Richard has years of experience fighting for the taxpayer on Beacon Hill and I’m thrilled to have him on the team,” Baker said in a statement posted on his campaign Web site.

The Web page contained on CharlieBaker2010.com included a photo of Tisei and an image of Baker-Tisei 2010 bumper sticker.

Baker and the Senate minority leader will take on convenience store magnate Christy Mihos in the Republican primary. The winner is set to face off against state Treasurer Timothy Cahill and incumbent Gov. Deval Patrick in a three-way contest in 2010.

Tisei, of Wakefield, was elected to the House at age 22, the youngest Republican ever elected to the legislature, according to the Baker campaign Web site.

Baker’s previous offer to run on a ticket with Cahill as lieutenant governor was rejected, the treasurer has said. Tisei was named Baker’s campaign chairman in August.

Recent Globe article by the way said that Tisei came out as gay last week

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2009/11/20/baker_narrows_list_of_running_mates_in_governors_race/

>>Tisei was first elected to the House at age 22 and moved to the Senate in 1991. His sexual orientation has been an open secret on Beacon Hill, and he disclosed it publicly yesterday in an interview with the Globe, anticipating the scrutiny that would accompany a statewide candidacy. “It is not exactly a news flash,’’ he said . “I don’t think people really care these days.’’

this race really bugs me
should be an easy GOP win with Deval at 36% but that dope Cahill has to run and splits the anti-Deval vote. right now Deval would win with his 36%.
its not even like Cahill is more conservative. i heard him on talk radio saying he would be fiscally like a Republican but more socially liberal. He claimed that since he was a Democrat and he knows all the Democrats that he would get along fine with them. MA is doomed

Great. A Slick Willard leftist RINO (DIABLO) and a gay Slick Willard leftist RINO (DIABLO) running mate. A definite conspiracy to keep an opposition party to the Democrats firmly buried in the boneyard.

And if there is YET another reason to support Tim Cahill...

Shades of Jane Swift who did the same thing. But she made Romney look good by comparison.

You’d think they’d learn from nearby NY-23... Socialist DIABLO/RINOs ARE the problem. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t consider Cahill some Indy right-wing savior, but Cahill will cause NO willful harm to the GOP (as yet one more party-killing pissant would), and if anything, perhaps cause the Beacon Hill Dems some indigestion on fiscal issues. And, too, as I’ve pointed out, even if Baker were Jesse Helms, there’d be no way he could accomplish anything since a “Republican” is a figurehead as a Governor. Until the party rebuilds its almost flatline numbers in the General Court, the only thing a “Governor Baker” will be doing is going to wine-and-cheese parties and presiding over supermarket openings (and how many supermarkets have opened in MA recently ?).

Exactly the same when she chose Patrick Guerriero, though he’s probably to the RIGHT of these guys. Sad, ain’t it ?

Another article on Globe site says the ticket could be like Weld, Cellucci: fiscal conservative, social liberal. It says all 4 ex-GOP govs (well, acting in Swift’s case)—Weld, Cellucci, Swift, Romnney—support Baker

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2009/11/23/mass_gop_gov_candidate_chooses_running_mate/

>>By announcing their campaign now, they can hold joint fundraisers both this calendar year and next, allowing them to seek the maximum $500 annual contribution from individuals in the six weeks remaining in 2009 and during the 11 months next year before Election Day. They also can also (sic) tap their individual networks to funnel $5,000 individual contributions to the Massachusetts Republican Party, whose members and apparatus have largely shunned Mihos after he staged an independent campaign against the GOP’s nominee, Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey, in the 2006 gubernatorial race. Baker and Tisei can also split campaign appearances across the state, and Tisei can help Baker with his outreach and intelligence in the Statehouse.

There's four EXCELLENT reasons to NOT vote for that DIABLO ticket. You can trace a direct line over 16 years from the time the party was viable (1990) to dead (2006). The MA GOP is going to have to start from scratch. They haven't earned the right to take the Governorship at the present time, not until they have excised the leftists holding onto the remnants of this party's corpse (starting with the "Chair", Jennie Nassour) and start growing again from the bottom up.

Mihos ran an Indy candidacy in 2006, and got 7%. A somewhat schizo “R”, allegedly right on a few issues, viscerally bad on social issues (pro-abort, pro-gay marriage). Might be slightly better than Baker, but that’s damning with faint praise. I simply can’t recommend any of them. I stated I endorsed Cahill simply because I believe he’ll govern as a non-partisan (if that is remotely possible). He’ll likely do no harm to the GOP. As I’ve already said, too, unless you just want to put a nice-sounding title on your resume, a Republican running for MA Governor as long as the party is dead and the grassroots a shambles is patently absurd. It’s a figurehead post now. The real power is on Beacon Hill, invested in the Speaker and Senate President. Hell, even Patrick isn’t really powerful and is largely a joke.

The whole MA political power structure needs to be purged and reworked, it operates like one big urban political machine, massively corrupt and rotted to the core (and completely one-party with a couple of joke only-on-paper oppositionists that get some crumbs as long as they do nothing, and they don’t - and now one of those “do nothing” DIABLO statists is Baker’s running mate).

Cahill asked Baker to be his running mate? That’s interesting.

If I was the state GOP I’d offer a tepid endorsement of Cahill rather than split the anti-Patrick vote with a couple worthless RINOs. At worst he’s not gonna be worse than a lousy RINO Governor and there is the advantage of not having him associated with the party if he does a bad job.

The “state GOP” is the left-wing moonbat Chair Jennifer Nassour. She ain’t going to endorse Cahill, they’re just going to try to shove another Slick Willardbot turd right up Mashes’ rectum.

Both Baker and Mihos suck. Tisei? Who cares. What's Baker trying to do, curry favor with the gay voters? Yeah, good luck with that.

Cahill is the only candidate worth anything in this race. I totally agree with your suggestion that the MA GOP should endorse Cahill, I suggested this a while back. Otherwise, Coupe gets back in, as the anti-Coupe vote gets split.

On another note, I'm off to Cabo for a few days. If you don't hear from me after a week, I've been kidnapped or worse. Happy Turkey Day to all!

>> Tisei publicly disclosed his sexuality to the newspaper last week, though it was widely known. "It is not exactly a news flash," he said. "I don't think people really care these days." Tisei played a key role in retaining marriage equality in Massachusetts. <<

If most people don't care and his sexual orientation was already widely known, why did he feel the need to make a public announcement about it? Nobody needs an announcement from Richard Simmons to know he's gay. I don't get what's with gay activists and their need to tell the world about their "sexual orientation" We don't hear this from other "alternative lifestyles":

"Hi, I'm Congressman Lisa Schultz, and I'm a necrophiliac. For the past five years, I've been in a positive long term relationship with a man's corpse at the morgue, but the government won't allow our relationship to be legally consummated. I don't understand this hurtful discrimination against my partner and I. It doesn't affect YOUR marriage."

"Steve Jones announced today that he is "breaking down barriers" as the first attorney general candidate to openly practice bestiality. Jones noted "I think we need to prove to America that a man who does it with farm animals can discharge the duties of the office just as well as a man who has human partners. It's time we stop discriminating against bestiality and judge a person by their record"

"Yesterday, State Representative Marcus Young confirmed in an interview with NAMBLA that he is in an relationship with a ten year old boy from Queens. Young noted "I think voters need to realize that there aren't many pedophiles serving in the legislature and I can bring a unique perspective on issues relating to child welfare, given the first hand knowledge I have from my partner. Other representatives have to rely on childhood memories or secondhand experiences with their own children. But my partner and I will work together to put the concerns of children first"

LOL

"Hi I'm Simon from early 90's Saturday night live, I'm running to join Stuart Smalley in the US Senate. Me, my rubber ducky, and my right hand (whom I consider a separate entity from myself) have been involved in a polygamous union for the past ten years. Why am I being treated like a second class citizen?".

The GOP ran a tranny in Vermont against Bernie Sanders in 2000. He/she did worse than anyone who has ever run against Sanders.

I figure any Catholic dimrat voters who might be considering the RINO ticket would be turned off by Tisei. They are certainly much more numerous and malleable than gay voters.
