Feingold holds solid lead over Thompson (no, He is beatble)

Raleigh, N.C. – Democrats are having to work harder than expected to defend a lot of their Senate seats in 2010, but it doesn’t look like Wisconsin will be one of them. Russ Feingold leads former Governor Tommy Thompson 50-41 in a possible match up. He takes 88% of the Democratic vote to Thompson’s 82% of the Republican vote and also holds a 47-41 lead with independents. Thompson no longer has the popularity that propelled him to four terms as Governor. 45% of voters in the state have an unfavorable opinion of him to just 38% who view him positively. Even 25% of Republicans view him negatively and he has little crossover support, with just 17% of Democrats saying they have a favorable opinion of him. Feingold’s numbers are almost a mirror image with 45% of voters approving of his job performance to 37% who disapprove. Feingold also holds solid leads against a couple of minor Republican candidates- 47-32 over Dave Westlake and 48-34 over Terrence Wall.

No he is beatable. It is interesting that Tommy Thompson is not performing better. But, against unknowns Feingold is under 50% and therefore in trouble. Obama is less popular in Wisconsin then Feingold. This seat appears to be very winnable despite PPP's attempt to spin it based on their own poll. Things are likely only to get worse for him.

Right. Anytime an incumbent is below 50% that is a danger sign.

What did Tommy Thompson do to lose support?

I’d love to see the nauseating Feingold be forced into early retirement.

A great constitutional Conservative IS running against Feingold for the seat in 2010.

My wife and I will work against Feingold. I’m thinking the developer Wall is the strongest i.e. the best known R at this point.

Thompson has been out there doing his best John McCain impression with the health care bill. He just made another stupid statement the other day about needing to sit across the aisle from the dems and get something passed.

He’s either been in DC too long or has developed dementia.

Perhaps Wisconsinites are sick of TT meddling in every statewide race since he left the Bush cabinet to the continuing detriment of the Republicans.

Most of us think that he is the perennial candidate who can be counted on to drop out after he has spoiled the chances of the leading Repbulican candidate. I swear that he files just to keep his campaign fund open just to collect money.

IMHO he sealed his fate when he resigned from HHS with the words, “I don’t know why the terrorists haven’t attacked our food chain. It would be so easy to do.”

He is running as a third party candidate. Just what we need to split the vote when we have a chance against Feingold.

Tommy Thompson..as much as I like him, is perceived as part of the problem. He basically is part of the oligarchy.

See #9. And you can add the way he danced around when his Lt. Gov. (whom he stuck with a looming budget problem when he wen to DC to be HHS Sec.) was running for re-election in 2002. His brother (a tavern owner who had no chance) was running for Gov. on a third party and TT did not support his 2 term Lt. Gov. who had supported him through the years. That stuck us with a terrible Dem for 8 years.

And when TT resigned to go to DC with Bush, he dragged his feet for months on moving out of the Governor’s mansion for months. The McCallums had no place to live, or entertain. Bad form.

However Carla Fiorina the RINO has the money and blessing of the GOP. Will Mr. Steel back a conservative? frim NY 23 I saw a GOP leadership that was more than willing to back stab and help the Democrat win the election even when the Republican withdraws or is a fruitcake nutjob liberal.

This the kind of Republican Party you think will save the Republic? Or are you just content to hold it for a little while longer till you die off? Too bad very few people today realize that there WAS political life before the Democrats and Republicans....and that political parties are born and die...you're witnessing these lifestages now

Republican Leadership Purity Resolution, Too Little Too Late

I read that a segment of Republican leadership is considering a Purity Resolution to help unify the leadership. To obtain their goal they will be attempting to stave off what will surely be solid resistance from the more liberal elements of the party. They will discuss it this winter in Honolulu.

How nice.

I’m not sure having a bunch of party leadership flying off to Honolulu is a wise choice considering the dire straits the Republic is in, the current state of the economy and frustration of the average Republican conservative who just gave up a few days of groceries to donate to the conservative cause. Will the conservative base be encouraged by leadership spending the donors grocery money or child’s school shoe money flying to Hawaii to discuss how, if you’re only for gun control and government funded abortion, you can still be included ‘under the big tent’ and get more party funding?

Explain to me again how this exercise will bolster the conservative confidence in Republican leadership. Please. I want to believe.

I searched the various definitions of political party on the web. Generally I came up with something like, “A group of people who are organized for the purpose of obtaining and using political power. The party develops a political platform that defines their ideology and sets out the agenda they would pursue should they win elective office.”

This definition does not come to my mind when I think of the current GOP leadership. The GOP leadership is not of unified ideology and they surely do not pursue anything. Over time the various iterations of GOP leadership have failed to mount a significant counter assault to return our Republic back to the more constitutionally conforming government that our founding fathers established. Even when in control of legislative and executive branches of government, they failed to execute lasting conservative reforms. At best they’ve been somewhat of a boat anchor to the socialists over the past 100 years, just slowing them down a bit here and there. Now the GOP leadership is dissolving at the seams, and the best they HOPE to muster is to obtain 80% minimum ‘purity’, if they can manage that. Purity in my book is NOT defined by the percentage of 80. My fellow Americans, I’m sure you feel the same way.

So where does a true conservative turn? You’re laying your children to bed at night and wondering what their future will be like. You wonder if you’ll be put out to medical pasture when your 65. You hurry to put out of your mind the subject of abortion, partial birth or otherwise, because no one in the GOP is willing to go to the wall to support your ideals. You’re challenged to predict what courage you will be able to muster WHEN ‘they’ decide we are too ignorant to own firearms. Well, move over. I’ve been there.

Like you, I am an average person working hard to make a living and pass something on to my kids. They have made that so impossible that in my frustration I decided to take things in my own hands and run for national office. The party I found most in agreement with my Constitutional, conservative ideals was the Constitution Party where the platform NEVER changes and is always focused on the Constitution with a faith in the wisdom of the Lord. Want a Wisconsin political attack animal that will fight on the House floor and media to restore a Constitutional Republic to your and my children? Elect me. Just once. Elect me.

As the Republican leadership toils and sacrifices this winter in Hawaii to achieve 80% ‘purity’ and continues to let Obama set the game table by reacting in opposition to “Obama’s socialist agenda” please consider this; give thought to what it might be like to support candidates that are your neighbors, are damned tired of this endless absurd game and will pro-actively lead to take back our liberty and Republic so our children can realize freedom beyond our wildest dreams….because liberty is not merely being able to select between the Government Option and a fine and/or prison time.

I agree.

This is a momentous political year coming up. We may very well be witnessing the last free election as we know it in the United States. The Marxists are working toward their final overthrow. Some just refuse to accept it.

Rob Taylor was told he couldn't win his spot on the city counsel in his small WI town. He proved them wrong through hard work and going door-to-door at every house in town. He won. He's demonstrating that same effort now on a state level. It is a precedent for how hard he'll work for the Constitution and our kids once in the Senate.

We have to watch him. The last remark I heard from him last week was that he was thinking about running more seriously now than he has in the past. He thinks things have changed in his favor.
