Senate Democrats' health care bill would create a new marriage penalty by imposing a tax on individuals who make $200,000 annually but hitting married couples making just $50,000 more.

That's one of 17 new taxes imposed by the bill, which also creates a levy on elective plastic surgery - some call it "botax" - and places a 40 percent excise tax on those who have generous health care plans.

"If you have insurance, you get taxed. If you don't have insurance, you get taxed. If you need a life-saving medical device, you get taxed. If you need prescription medicines, you get taxed," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, who is leading the fight against the bill...

If the Senate proceeds with passing this pig of legislation, will it FINALLY be enough for us to throw them out of the Congress??

It will be for me and my household but I have my doubts about the rest of the country.

Whats gonna happen is this crap of a bill wont go into effect for 3-4 years, I think they said 2013.

You wont see people complaining until they are actually on these plans and get burned by either being denied something, or taxed to death.

Keep in mind, many of these people who have no insurance, and think they will be getting something for nothing..are thinking this “healthcare” will be the kind their insurance paying friends have. It wont be.

I have seen a lot of people talk about those who have medicaid. I got news for you..a lot of doctors dont take it and there are many, many drugs they wont pay for.

Years back, I was a pharmacists asst. Medicade wouldnt even pay for Robitussin DM otc cough meds.

You just WAIT until some of these people get their freebie and low cost government run health care. They will be wishing for the day, that they had none and could walk into any emergency room.

Unfortunately, the rest of us will have to suffer through it on our own. I am sure there will be big changes in our own coverage,..that is..if the boss is still willing to buy it.

Yeah , the Democrats are letting it all hang out with this one.

When this thing goes into effect it should put republicans in office for the next hundred years.

Yet another Big Government boondoggle calculated to separate Americans from their money while providing little or nothing except excess complexity.

Its appeal is directed straight at the chronically uninsured who make up the hard-core voter base of the party, while, at the same time, scr*wing everybody else in the nation.

To paraphrase Bogie, this is precisely the stuff that Democrats are made of.

Several relatively small tax increases will be aimed at health savings accounts and medical savings accounts. One will change the definitions for medical expenses that qualify as itemized deductions. Another will raise the penalties for withdrawing funds from these vehicles. A third would limit health-related flexible spending arrangements.

"All of these changes are designed to make health savings accounts less attractive and cripple consumer-directed health care plans," said Michael Cannon, director of Health Policy Studies at the Cato Institute.
