Navy SEALs Face Assault Charges for Capturing Most-Wanted Terrorist
Fox News ^ | Tuesday, November 24, 2009 | By Rowan Scarborough

Navy SEALs have secretly captured one of the most wanted terrorists in Iraq — the alleged mastermind of the murder and mutilation of four Blackwater USA security guards in Fallujah in 2004. And for their trouble, three of the SEALs, members of the Navy's elite commando unit, are now facing criminal charges, sources told FoxNews.com.

The three have refused non-judicial punishment — called an admiral's mast — and requested a trial by court-martial.

Ahmed Hashim Abed, whom the military code-named "Objective Amber," told investigators he was punched by his captors — and he had the bloody lip to prove it.

Now, instead of being lauded for bringing to justice a high-value target, three of the SEAL commandos, all enlisted, face assault charges and have retained lawyers.

This is just sickening. Send young men to war, then try them for assault?

Some times I wish I could swear more.....

My GOD, what are we doing? Are we actually trying to kill our own soldiers?

Yes. Well, not exactly us. 'Them' who is 'the one they have been waiting for' is.

Don't our guys have enough life and death dilemmas in combat without have to think twice about punching a bad guy?

Since they get court martialed anyway, the troops might as well devise their own ROE.

I suppose you never heard of border agents Ramos and Compean?

The Haditha massacre? There were NO prosecutions of military men under Bush for doing the job they were assigned?

Bush was better than Obama, and the feelings of troops that have served under both have great weight, but GW was a lousy defender of the troops in several instances.

Lt Col Chessani is still under attack by those within the military and political circles. In several cases Bush could have stopped this kind of political theater, by stepping in and stopping persecutions. He chose instead to allow their names to be dragged in the mud, for them to be shackled and held in solitary confinement pending charges, or sent to jail for discharging a weapon in pursuit of an armed drug smuggler....I choose to see men as they are, not as heroes when they are just flawed and as PC as GW Bush obviously was.

My daughter will soon be turning 18 and is interested in the military’s nursing program. I don’t want her anywhere near the armed forces until we get a president who respects them and who’s not a subversive socialist bastard.

So he wasn’t perfect-are you saying this has NEVER happened before in the history of the USA?

GWB isn’t president, so get over your derangement syndrome.

Good on them and a pox on all Obamaites be they in the military or not.

Thanks for the ping. My BP is up also because it’s clear to me the murdering terrorist tripped and fell trying to avoid capture and the SEAL team leader should have known it.

Wars can’t be fought with PC.

Look for a mass exodus of guys not wanting to re-enlist under this madness.

Might be exactly what our marxist masters want to see happen.

Was legal o on my first ship. By forcing a courts-martial they remove the ability of the CO to impose his own particular brand of PC justice whichever way that blows on a given day.

It puts it in the hands of a jury (depending if it is summary, special, or general that makeup varies I think)and they have full legal counsel.

Most importantly the rules of evidence apply.

It will definitely limit, not eliminate, the CO/Admiral from imposing their personal whim for the day.

"...this white house has no clue what we’re doing and that we’re in a war."

They know perfectly well what they're doing, and they are fully aware that we're in a war.

They are fighting for the other side, that's all.

OK, I just read this. I would definitely connect these charges with the “new” military mentality which contributed to the 14 deaths at Fort Hood. This is f’n asinine. We need to get our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan now. America is going down the sh!ter.

I read the articles before I was pinged here. I have not viewed the thread yet.

It seems to me that the fact that these heroes have declined non judicial punishment (Article 15?) is a potential good thing.

Bring it on. The monsters who desecrated those men 5 years ago get to cause upheaval over a bloody lip?..I do not think so. The Military simply cannot pursue this madness.

Get the popcorn ready.
