Time Cover Story: Bush Decade 'Hell,' Obama Decade Better
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 11/25/2009 6:36:42 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

In one tidy cover story—The Decade From Hell And Why The Next One Will Be Better—Time sums up the last decade and the one to come. Things were "hell" under George W. Bush, but will be better under Barack Obama.

Class dismissed: that's really all you need to know. But just to drive home the Manichean message, Time editor Rick Stengel and Andy Serwer [of Time stable-mate Fortune], who wrote the cover story, appeared on Morning Joe today.

Of course there's the inconvenient detail about Barack Obama having been elected in this decade. But not to worry. Serwer explains "you may see Barack Obama being elected as the beginning of the next decade."

Excerpts from the pro-Obama babble . . .

I remember the bad old days of DJIA at 14,000. And unemployment at 4.5%. And a massive federal deficit of $180B. Whew!

Thank God it's so much better now.

Obama has more combined troops in Iraq and Afghanistan than Bush.

Obama has tripled the deficit and doubled the unemployment rate.

But things are better now than under Bush?

Isn’t that the same rationale that landed Obama the Nobel Peace Prize? I guess Time can see into the future.

I think that this writer got it backwards. Unless the demise of their moribund publication is considered "better." For them the decade from Hades is coming soon. What morons!

The 70’s was the decade from hell: Started with Nixon trying to appease the Liberals with OSHA, EPA, and big spending, ended with Carter double digit inflation, double digit unemployment.

Thank God it's so much better now.

The leftists were telling us back when the market was booming, unemployment was low, and the deficit seems paltry compared to now that it was the worst economy since the Great Depression. Now this. How these people retain any credibility with anyone is beyond me. I predict we are on the cusp of a massive defection from Obamalamadingdong and his policies. This Obama guy is making Jimmuh Carter look like a genius. People in the real world know the score. Watch in the coming months as the rats flee the sinking ship. I just hope it happens fast enough to stop this health control boondoggle....

Yep! The horror of being employment with a healthy 401K and a deficit of just a few billion and decreasing, and low taxes.

I was asking my doctor about government health care and he said “it will be good for me and good for you”. I was shocked! His final word on the subject was “anything will be better than the last 8 years”. I am seriously looking for a new doctor, this one is dumb.

We forget that 9/11 changed every hope and dream President Bush may have had for his watch. Economically he managed to keep the nation's head above the water while the effects of 9/11 tried to drown us, defensively he prevented further attacks on CONUS, and militarily he took the battle to the enemy on their soil.

To me, it was a great decade for those reasons alone.

My mother-in-law gave me a subscription to National Review. About a year ago I started taking copies I'd already read to doctor and dentist visits and leaving them in the waiting room. Gotta fight this nonsense somehow.....

I know Times magazine has been a leftist rag for the last 20 years but I wonder if they’re getting any money from this administration. Pretty soon all of the print media and local news media will be owned and operated by the Peoples Government of BHO.

I had a really good career under Bush. Now I've been unemployed since shortly after BHO took office. My mistake was that I never realized unemployment under Obama is better that working. I'm sooo thankful I've a whole got a decade of this to look forward to.
