Aliens Cause Global Warming.
Michael Crichton.Com ^ | January 17, 2003 | Michael Crichton

"....found in the response to criticism. Although Richard Feynman was characteristically blunt, saying, "I really don't think these guys know what they're talking about," other prominent scientists were noticeably reticent. Freeman Dyson was quoted as saying "It's an absolutely atrocious piece of science but...who wants to be accused of being in favor of nuclear war?" And Victor Weisskopf said, "The science is terrible but---perhaps the psychology is good." The nuclear winter team followed up the publication of such comments with letters to the editors denying that these statements were ever made, though the scientists since then have subsequently confirmed their views.

At the time, there was a concerted desire on the part of lots of people to avoid nuclear war. If nuclear winter looked awful, why investigate too closely? Who wanted to disagree? Only people like Edward Teller, the "father of the H bomb."

Teller said, "While it is generally recognized that details are still uncertain and deserve much more study, Dr. Sagan nevertheless has taken the position that the whole scenario is so robust that there can be little doubt about its main conclusions." Yet for most people, the fact that nuclear winter was a scenario riddled with uncertainties did not seem to be relevant.

I say it is hugely relevant. Once you abandon strict adherence to what science tells us, once you start arranging the truth in a press conference, then anything is possible. In one context, maybe you will get some mobilization against nuclear war. But in another context, you get Lysenkoism. In another, you get Nazi euthanasia. The danger is always there, if you subvert science to political ends. ........"

Here's a little exercise for you folks who still believe the Arctic is melting out of control.

--Open this chart in another window

--On the "x-axis" find "MAY"

--Follow "May" up to the color for the year "2009"

Now, did you notice? Good for you, that's right! May 2009 had the most square kilometers of ice of any year for the past 8 years.

Now go tell your friends, and show them how to read a cartesian chart for themselves, rather than relying on what other people tell you.

The fact that this was written in 2003, and that the Global Warming Clique is now stronger than ever, is extremely depressing.

This perhaps is the greatest failure of the Bush administration, to ignore this warning and ignore this advice.

Before you jump all over me about “blaming everything on Bush”, read the entire paper — the entire paper, not just part of it, the whole thing — and remember it was written in 2003.

It's been my observation, that Republicans come to the battles of ideology, unarmed. Witless. Ignorant. Dismissive. Head in the sand, passive, everything will ‘work out’. GW, and HW, Ford, Hasteret, Michaels, Dole.....and thousands more. Little more than shopkeepers. Their main job was always to get elected, stay elected, and stay in the warm, delusional glow of Hollywood for ugly people on the Potomac.

Even if you find a ideological competent Republican, they usually are just dripping with old school, Tory elitism and zero, no popular feel for the masses.

GW was too into 12 step, Christian Love Thy Brother. Jesus on the cross was his model. I wish he'd leave that to Jesus and had a little more Al Capone in him.

Wow, excellently worded indictment of one of the principle weaknesses of the Republicans. The party of the Chamber of Commerce.

I mean, don’t get me wrong. That’s their strength, too. That they can represent small businesses, which are the backbone of this nation.

But when it comes to arguing against the Intellectual Liars of the Left, Republican politicians are a truly dimwitted crowd.

Look at Newt Gingrich. Previously so right about so many things and then so easily hornswoggled by Global Warming.

Santa and the Tooth Fairy I seriously doubt. The Easter Bunny being a Pookah and an Avatar of the Trickster I would believe. NEVER trust the Trickster.

GW was too into 12 step, Christian Love Thy Brother.

You're thinking of the limp-wristed deity invented by Hallmark Cards and Precious Moments for simple-minded women to worship. The real Jesus was a loud, insulting, sarcastic, in-your-face Son of a Creator who had no problem with rolling up his sleeves and beating the snot out of some crooks. He could have been King of the Dungites and Dirtlings and ruled all of Camelstink, but He had a way better throne in mind.

Good point! However I heard that Al Gore is upset at Santa for having too many Reindeer, they cause to much CO2 in the atmosphere, and his workshop is polluting the north pole and killing the polar bears.

You are correct. He went into Herod’s temple, made a whip out of some cords and attacked the money changers, turned their tables over and drove the livestock out.

His Apostles carried assault swords also.

Al Gore is LYING! He KNOWS Santa bought Carbon Offsets but is trying to paint Santa and the Elves in the worst possible light so the Obama administration can move in and take over his business! Can you imagine the hold on the children they will have if they take over the Christmas toy business?

I heard that certain Elves in leadership positions in the Elves Union have secretly been working to sell the rank and file Elves out and merge with the SEIU. They’ve even gone so far as to allow Elves from India to take key positions in the workshops saying that they can’t find any local Elves to fill them.

The Scientific American attacked Lomborg for eleven pages, yet only came up with nine factual errors despite their assertion that the book was "rife with careless mistakes." It was a poor display featuring vicious ad hominem attacks, including comparing him to a Holocaust denier. The issue was captioned: "Science defends itself against the Skeptical Environmentalist." Really. Science has to defend itself? Is this what we have come to?

When Lomborg asked for space to rebut his critics, he was given only a page and a half. When he said it wasn't enough, he put the critics' essays on his web page and answered them in detail. Scientific American threatened copyright infringement and made him take the pages down.

That's not vindication of the rights of the publisher. That, IMHO, is abuse of a privilege.

And it is no different from dominating the public discourse, as the Associated Press and its membership assiduously seeks to do, by preventing full discussion and critique of their arrogant claims by us "commoners."

The right of a publisher to publish is absolute. The privilege of a publisher to restrict other people from republishing the publisher's original work is not a right, it is privilege that Congress is allowed by the Constitution to grant, rather than a right stipulated by the Constitution.

I would argue that journalism in particular merits no more than a day's embargo on repetition. And a magazine, perhaps no more than a month. Always provided that the original publisher is credited for the work, and not blamed for any changes which a republisher might make in the original.
