Brazil: 'Gringos' Must Pay to Keep Rainforests
Newser ^ | 11-26-09

Brazil's president says "gringos" should pay Amazon nations to prevent deforestation, insisting rich Western nations have caused much more past environmental destruction than the loggers and farmers who cut and burn trees in the world's largest tropical rain forest.

"I don't want any gringo asking us to let an Amazon resident die of hunger under a tree," Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said ahead of an Amazon summit. "We want to preserve, but they will have to pay the price for this preservation because we never destroyed our forest like they mowed theirs down a century

I actually agree with this guy. I don’t care if they cut down some forest and develop their land. I don’t even care if they use DDT.

My apology. I meant “Collapse”, Jered Diamond’s wonderful sequel. He lists different cultures, and what led to their collapse. Environmental factors were prevalent in almost all of them. I think Brazil should read the section on Haiti, to see what happens when they cut their trees down.

Logging is farming, just on a larger more impressive scale. As long as you replant or cut selectively, the forests remain and provide forest products indefinitely. If you clear cut just to create farm land like they are doing in Brazil. Eventually it will cause problems, but it's their land.

I think that this is more of a ‘put up or shut up’ to the greenie eco-meddlers that are constantly harping on Brazil’s rain forests, rather than a ‘give us money or the rain forest gets it’ to Americans at large.

Found himself one day with an axe in his hand

Perhaps the racist dolt Lulu La La shoulc check his facts about American forsests, etc. There are now more trees in America than when the Pilgrims landed here. The US plants millions of trees every year.

Another psycho South American lecturinig us from their 3rd world banana hell hole.

As Lulu if you’re safe on the streets in Brazil in Rio or Sao Paulo, etc, not to mention Caracas, Venezuela, or Bogata, or how many places in Columbia or even with our esteemed neighbors to the South, Mexico.

Africa, South America and the Middle East, dangerous hell holes.

We can be called gringos, crackers, honkies, et al and the world doesn’t bat an eye. But just refer to a Mexican as a wetback or spic, or a black as a you-know-what, and we’re talking hate crimes.

The area of forest in the US has been growing in recent decades, and (by the way) we have essentially no tropical rain forests here.

No one should pay any serious attention the Brazilian leader.

...so telling the Brazilians how to live is “racist” and forcing our lifestyle on them, but telling me what kind of car to drive and what kind of lightbulbs to us is okay?

It means No Go.

There was a famous marketing story about Chevrolet promoting a particular model of car they used to make, and it didn’t do well in Brazil; the Nova.

I read this as his telling the Western environmentalists and governments to take a flying leap.

Most (ALL) Brazilians I know like lula about as much as we do oBOWma. Lula’s an uneducated idiot who got to power by lying to the ‘peasants” and being a union thug.

So now I’m a gringo... hmmm. Does that mean I can call them names that refer to their skin/culture? Oh wait, only *I* can be a racist. No wonder I don’t give a rats a** what they think.
