Climategate: the whitewash begins
The London Telegraph ^ | November 27, 2009 | James Delingpole

Posted on 11/28/2009, 3:48:04 AM by 2ndDivisionVet

Breaking news from the splendid Bishop Hill. It seems the AGW establishment has launched an urgent damage limitation exercise in order to whitewash the Climategate scandal in time for Copenhagen.

Here’s the (so far unconfirmed) story:

1) Lord Rees (Royal Society) to be asked by UEA to investigate CRU leak.

2) Foreign Office and government leaning heavily on UEA to keep a lid on everything lest it destabilises Copenhagen.

3) CRU asked to prepare data for a pre-emptive release in past couple of days but trouble reconciling issues between data bases has stopped this.

The appointment of Lord Rees, if confirmed, is especially worrying. It’s the rough equivalent of appointing King Herod’s grand vizier to investigate a mysterious outbreak of mass baby killing in Judaea.

First, Lord Rees – formerly Sir Martin Rees, the Astronomer Royal – is very much of the catastrophist mindset which helped launch the whole AGW scare in the first place. Five years ago, he declared:

“I think the odds are no better than 50/50 that our present civilisation will survive to the end of the present century.”

Second, he has previously suggested that there might be certain areas where frank and open scientific enquiry is not a good idea.

“He asks whether scientists should withhold findings which could potentially be used for destructive purposes, or if there should be a moratorium, voluntary or otherwise, on certain types of scientific research, most notably genetics and biotechnology.”

Third, he is president of an institution – The Royal Society – which has persistently used its distinguished name (founded 1660); and supposed unimpeachable scientific authority to push AGW theory.

Here is the Royal Society’s most recent statement on the subject, brought out in the aftermath of the Climategate scandal.(continued)

Another front in the battle against liberalism/socialism in which we are just beginning to turn the tide in.

Just remember that, as the left begins to realize that they are utterly defeated, they will get violently dangerous.

They aren't scientists. They're socialist-nation-spawned politicians.

Royal Society == Toast.

Pity, too. Another wonderful institution that won’t survive the baby boomers.

I hope you’re right, that this is the defeat of the Left.

I feel that it is. This is why they basically stuck their fingers in their ears and went, “La La LA LA LAA!” for the last week.

Somehow, I welcome the thought of them doing so. Why mince words?

It would be wise for our Congress to hold an inquiry quickly and blow this thing out of the water...

How dare the Democrats try to force the American people into a grand ponzi scheme led by their hero Al Gore....

This is the Hoax of the century. Where is the media interest? Pravda been muzzled by Obama ?

This is why they basically stuck their fingers in their ears and went, “La La LA LA LAA!” for the last week.

They were suspiciously quiet.

I concluded that they had some dead-of-night meetings in their ivory towers with their MSM cohorts.

New rhetoric cooked up from the meetings will likely be revealed this week. But I don't think it's gonna do any good. If Al Gore is in charge it will be limp-wristed stuff like "risky tax scheme".

That was highly ineffectual and I'm sure their new strategies will be likewise.

Part of the emails released indicate that the “scientists” involved were trying to control the media.

It’s apparent that not only have they not stopped, they’ve redoubled their efforts.

This is reminiscent of an episode of the classic British TV series "Yes, Minister." Traditionally, a man who is considered "sound" and understands what is expected from him will get the job of chairing an inquiry.

As Sir Humphrey Appleby famously said: "You never appoint a commission to study anything unless you know in advance what the commission is going to report."

Folks, I have to recommend a book to all of you!

It is timely, considering what is going on. It is called "Red Hot Lies" by Chris Horner.

I have been listening to the audio version for the past couple of days, and it bears directly on what we are seeing here. The closest analogy for me is having watched the tactics of the Left and their politics of personal destruction, then having the chance to read, for the first time, "Witness" by Whittaker Chambers.

In Chris Horner's book, he talks about how the climate zealots attack anyone who dares to question the "consensus" of Anthropogenic Global Warming. It is exactly what they are doing to Senator Inhofe and any other person, scientist or otherwise who dares to speak out.

It is past time for people to speak out on this global warming BS before the liberals in power sign away our future in order to line their own green pockets.

I think it is analogous to the lawyer’s adage about never asking a witness a question you don’t already know the answer to...

Former Senator and Vice President Al Gore seen here en-route back to prison after a federal appeals court refused to review his 20 year sentence for his lead role as spokesperson in the “Climategate” fraud conspiracy. The same court recently rejected the appeals of the lengthy sentences of the 137 alleged UN “scientists” – Gore’s co-conspirators – for falsifying data supporting so-called Cap and Trade legislation that trial testimony disclosed would have virtually destroyed what remained of the U.S. economy while enriching Gore and a cabal of insiders.
