CHARLESTON, S.C. — When Senator Lindsey Graham joined forces last month with Senator John Kerry on a compromise to the climate change legislation known as cap and trade, it was the last straw for the Charleston County Republican Party.

The latest on President Obama, his administration and other news from Washington and around the nation. Join the discussion.

The county party, which has traditionally been considered moderate, voted by a wide margin to censure Mr. Graham in harsh terms.

Their grievance list was long: it cited the senator for calling opponents of immigration law change “bigots,” holding the Republican Party “hostage” by participating in bipartisan maneuvers, voting for the Wall Street bailout and tarnishing the ideals of freedom.

It even criticized Mr. Graham, a Republican and the state’s senior senator, as having “stated on many occasions that his primary concern is to ‘be relevant.’ ”

(By “their ilk,” I mean anyone who wants to grow government in any way, for any reason. The GOOD guys are the ones who want to SHRINK government to its Constitutional limits.)

The GOP voters of South Carolina had their chance to toss him out in the last primary, and backed him anyway. Maybe they deserve what they get.

Bull.
GOP voters were once again screwed by South Carolina's open primaries. We had a conservative candidate in Buddy Witherspoon, but the GOP (not the voters) backed Graham and democrats crossed over in DROVES to ensure Lindsey's re-election. I would be willing to bet that more Republicans voted for Lindsey's opponent in the general simply because they knew that he was more conservative than Graham.

Also, it is not a case of South Carolina Republicans getting what they (we) deserve. Lindsey is a UNITED STATES Senator. His positions and votes on the Senate floor have an impact on all United States Citizens (and in Lindsey's case, all illegal aliens too!).

I live in SC, and I know how hated Lindsey is among conservatives... we know that we got shafted in the last election by the GOP, and by Democrats who preferred Graham over the Conservative in the primary, and the Democrat in the general. There were plenty of news stories here during the campaign detailing how Democrats supported Graham, due to his liberal policies.

Of course, it's easy to spout off when you don't even post where YOU are from on your "about" page.
